Rising Star Looks Invincible On The Taipa Sand

3 minute read

Rising Macau star Invincible made it two from two with an effortless win over 1050 metres at Taipa on Friday night’s sand program.

Ridden by Horace Lam Invincible was fired out of the gates to lead easily, and it was obvious soon after that it was game over for the chasers. Invincible coasted to the line for a five and a quarter lengths victory over Tak Fai Of Pins (Luis Corrales), with Diamond Rocket (Frankie Choi) running a distant third.

A son of the 2000 turf Breeder’s Cup Mile winner War Chant, Invincible looked good on debut when he led throughout to win over the same distance on August 28. The three year old showed that he had come on plenty for that with an easy win against the higher graded horses in a barrier trial on September 30.

When the clock stopped on Friday night Invincible had recorded a slick 1.01.6 for the 1050 metres and had something to spare at the end. Three races later Frankie Leong had to pull out all stops on King Achilles when he downed the favorite Speed On (Peter Ho) in 1.01.7 to win the 85 to 60 rated event over the same trip.

With his sire War Chant a turf winner over a mile and his dam Miss Belair a 2000 metre winner at Flemington, Invincible not only should get a lot further but also should be a force to be reckoned when he steps out on the turf.

Trainer Louis Ho who prepares Invincible notched up a quick race to race to double when Grateful Favors led throughout to bolt away with 50 to 75 contest (2st Division) over 1350 metres under Peter Lao.

The win followed two nice placed efforts on the all weather by the son of Congrats (USA) who looks to have a nice future on the sand.

Son Of Unicorn from the James Moore yard led them a merry dance for a runaway win in the last of the night the 50 to 75 (1st Division) over 1350 metres.

Ridden by Luis Corrales, Son Of Unicorn made it win number four on the sand surface and his third at the 1350 metre trip.

Son of Unicorn a son of Mossman (Aus) had won three on the trot from May to July last season with his hard front running style and looks to have a sound future on the all weather.

The four year old is raced in the same interest as Grateful Favors who won and earlier division of the race. Son Of Unicorns time of 1.21.2 was far superior to Grateful Favors 1.22.0 on the night.

Derby hopeful Éclair Journey overcame difficulty to win the 0 to 55 Special Conditions Handicap under Irishman Wayne Smith.

Prepared by Alan Tam Éclair Journey was sent out a warm favorite at $1.9 in light of two nice efforts over the 1050 metres. The step up to 1350 metres proved to be perfect with the grey son of Guillotine (USA) hitting the line very strongly after running into traffic problems at the two hundred.

From only six runs in Australia when prepared by Matthew Smith, Éclair Journey managed a third at Newcastle over 2100 metres and a third at Scone over 1600 metres.

The gelding could develop into a nice Derby prospect with time, but that aside he will more than pay his way on the all weather judging by Friday’s win.
