Exciting Macau Win By Former Sydney Gelding

3 minute read

Former Sydney galloper Master Kaopu recorded one of the most impressive wins seen at Taipa in recent times when he powered to an effortless win over 1200m last Saturday.

Ryan Curatolo rode the former Gerald Ryan trained galloper, who raced in Australia as Intrusion.

He left his rivals standing when he powered away at the 200m to put a huge gap in them before coasting to the line under a tight hold.

At the wire it was Master Kaopu by five and a quarter lengths from Canny Be A Hero (Andrew Calder), with Starkiller (Luis Corrales) three quarters of a length back in third.

Master Kaopu ran second beaten only a neck by Starkiller in his Macau debut on September 30, but had indicated in his trackwork that he had come on plenty for the run

The son of Redoute’s Choice raced 11 times in Australia for a win at the Beaumont track in Newcastle and placed a further three times.

In one of his runs at Rosehill the gelding placed third behind Sempre Libera and Flippant. Running fifth in that race was the very smart Japonisme.

Those that follow the Australian racing closely would have seen Japonisme finish third on Friday night to Rebel Dane in the G1 Manikato Stakes at Moonee Valley so form wise it was looking pretty good for Master Kaopu in a Class 3 in Macau.

As a yearling he was a $600,000 purchase at the 2014 Sydney Easter Yearling Sales. The bay is a half-brother to the 2011 VRC Sires Produce winner Running Tall.

Trainer K H Leong has a really nice horse on his hands and after this the gelding now sits on a rating of 78 points.

That will get him into the bottom of the weights against the likes of Sweet Korean (rated 99) and Sparta rated 92. A clash between the three talented gallopers will be inevitable in the not too distant future, making for a great contest.

Golden Double caused an upset win in the Class 1 & 2 Handicap over 1500 metres per medium of a lovely rails hugging ride by Charles Perkins.

The eight year old gelding has never lacked in class but was sent out at odds of $177.00 with the yielding to soft track conditions. Added to that was the presence of the topweight The Alfonso.

The Alfonso simply failed to deliver on the day under his 133 pounds in the choppy conditions that were the legacy of two typhoons that hit Macau during the week.

However Golden Double didn’t let his side down, and after a lovely run in transit stormed home against the inside rail to beat another long-shot in More Than Happy (Akash Aucharuz) who turned in a cracker of a race to run second, with the well supported Perfect Alloy (Horace Lam) in third.

A son of One Cool Cat, Golden Double has now won ten races in Macau, seven of them at the 1500 metres trip.

Charles Perkins has forged a great bond with the gelding having won five races on him.

Trainer Tony Fung has done a fine job with gelding who has now won almost $HK3 million in prize money.

Earlier in the day Charles Perkins and Tony Fung combined to win the first race the 0 to 55 Handicap 1200 metres with another roughie Who’s My Fan.

Sporting the blinkers first time Who’s My Fan reveled in the wet conditions to win easily over Go Go Partners (Peter Ho), with Californiatreasure (Frankie Leong) running in third.

Who’s My Fan paid a healthy $269.50 for the win and judging by the ease of his victory the son of Court Command will be winning plenty more, albeit at much smaller odds.

Luis Corrales also booted home a winning double on the day with Windsor Arch Five in the 30 to 55 Handicap over 1200m and the heavily bet even money favorite Peace Get Fortune in the Class 3 over 1500m.
