Chin And Fung Dominate Macau Meetings

3 minute read

Macau trainers Stanley Chin and Tony Fung both enjoyed a great weekend at Taipa leading in six of the 12 winners.

Both Chin and Fung prepared three winners each, but it was Tony Fung’s gallopers stole the show performance wise with three outstanding wins on Friday nights sand card.

Fung produced two USA imports that simply won in a hand canter, the first of those being Winbeauty Infiniti who destroyed his rivals in the 15 to 45 rated event over 1500 metres.

Ridden by Leo Salles, Winbeauty Infiniti was always forward in the run before kicking well clear for an easy seven and a quarter lengths win over Gold Selection (Wayne Smith), with Smart Ebony (Breinell Yamzon) in third.

Winbeauty Infiniti is by More The Ready from the Speightstown (USA) mare Lady Mickataine and is a big powerful type standing well over 16 hands and 1230 pounds in bodyweight. Judging by Fridays nights win the four year old will make merry on the sand surface until the handicapper gets his measure.

The very next race the 25 to 45 rated contest over 1350 metres was simply a carbon copy with King Of Real Estate sporting the same colors for the same owner Mr. Eddie Ng making a one act affair of the race.

King Of Real Estate a four year old son of Musket Man (USA) made it a double for Leo Salles and Tony Fung. However Tony Fung wasn’t done with for the night with his New Zealand import Grand Double Win producing a sensational performance under Charles Perkins to win 60 to 85 rated Handicap over 1500 metres.

In a hot Class 2 & 3 field Grand Double Win at one stage was so far back in the run that the long-shot camera angle could not pick the gelding up. Still last on the home turn Grand Double Win came like a shot out of gun late to down Red Dragon (Cliffy Lai), with Luen Yat Everwin (Frankie Choi) close up in third.

Stanley Chin kicked of the weekend with the well named Galaxy Giant who goes to scale at close to 1350 pounds showing his opponents a clean pair of heels in the Class 4 over 1050 metres in the last of the night on Friday.

The win by Galaxy Giant gave Chin’s former apprentice Frankie Choi his first win for the season and it certainly won’t be the last for Galaxy Giant a son Choisir(Aus).

Galaxy Giant set a solid speed up front and kept right on with it to runaway and win by three and a half lengths.

Saturday’s turf day saw Stanley Chin team up with Mauritian rider Akash Aucharuz to win the first two races on the program.

Explosive Blast got home narrowly in the first of the day the Class 6 over 1200 metres after crossing easily from his wide draw to sit off the leader Power Savabeel. Both horses had a great battle in the straight with Explosive Blast just finding the line a little better.

The promising three year old Surdmaster made it win number two for Chin and Aucharuz on Saturday when he easily won the 25 to 45 rated Handicap over 1500 metres off a nicely judged front ride by Aucharuz.

Surdmaster a son of Al Maher became the fourth winner from the group of youngsters purchased at over the three Online Sales that were telecast live to the Macau Jockey Club in 2015.

River Sandtop who won the 30 to 55 rated event over 1100 metres on Saturday became the fifth winner from the sales two races later.

River Sandtop was a $55,000 dollar purchase from the Karaka Sales and Surdmaster was a $35,000 purchase from the Magic Millions Sale of 2015.

With only a handful of the 2015 batch to race the results are shaping up as good as the first group to race from the original Live Online Sales from 2014.

From the 2014 graduates out of the three sales there have been 31 horses to race, with now 22 individual winners of 50 races, and close to $9.5 million in prize money returned to owners.

Sparta the tough as teak Australia import made it three wins straight with another gutsy performance in the Class 1 & 2 over 1100 metres on Saturday’s turf program.

Ridden by Leo Salles the four year son of Beneteau (USA) parked well of the tear-away leader Happy Bunny before charging home right over the top of him over the last two hundred metres.

In what was the hottest field of Class 1 & 2 sprinter’s assembled at the Taipa track in a while, Sparta was dominant in the finish and now has four wins and four second placings to his credit in Macau.

The long awaited clash between Sparta and Sweet Korean never really looked imminent with Sweet Korean struggling under his 133 pounds and his wide draw of gate 11, prompting jockey Ryan Curatolo to say that the horse may need a break now.

New Zealand Group 1 performer Allez Eagle wound up in sixth spot beaten five lengths, whilst UK import Bingo Champion who had won two from his past four races including a victory over Sparta, was checked in the run and never recovered from the incident.
