Invincible Stays Unbeaten In Macau

3 minute read

Exciting three year old Invincible made it three wins from as many starts with another emphatic victory over 1050 metres at Taipa's sand meeting in Macau on November 11.

Prepared by Louis Ho and ridden by regular jockey Horace Lam, Invincible again took command straight out the gates and led on the bridle to the corner, before dashing away for a five length victory over Show Smart (Breinell Yamzon), with Diamond Rocket (Roger Yu) running home for third.

On a night when the sand was not riding fast Invincible clocked 1.03 for the 1050 metres exactly the same time that Diva Achiever did three races later in the Class 3 (50 to 70). In fact on times and the manner in which he won, Invincible would have placed in the Class 1 & 2 taken out by River Bobo later in the evening.

Invincible is a son of the 2000 Breeder’s Cup Mile (turf) winner War Chant from the Grand Lodge mare Miss Belair. The bay gelding for all his brilliant speed is bred to run a lot further and on the turf as well. War Chant won up to a mile and placed second in the Santa Anita Derby over nine furlongs, and the dam Miss Belair was a 2000 metre winner at Flemington.

Invincible is smart away from the gates and has a high cruising speed and is just as powerful at the end of his races.

A bargain buy of $26,000 Aud. Invincible is another winner from the Macau Jockey Clubs Online Sales concept where the sales are beamed live to the Members lounge at the MJC. Invincible came out of the 2015 Magic Millions 2YO’s in Training Sales.

Invincible was one of the very early winners from the 2015 Online Sales from only a small number to race.

Go Go Partner’s (Peter Ho) who won the New Zealand Bloodstock Ready To Run Sale Trophy on Sunday became the ninth winner from the 2015 sale purchases, when he ran home too well for River Sandtop in the 1100 metres contest.

Peter Ho later in the day took out the second feature of the afternoon the Sportech Quantum Challenge also over 1100 metres with Nam Kee’s Treasure.

River Bobo made it win number 10 on the all weather surface with another dominant three length victory in the Class 1 and 2 over 1050 metres on Friday night.

The five year old son of Elusive City (USA) has a marvelous record on the sand having only been out of the money on two occasions from his 14 runs on the surface.

Jockey Luis Corrales has been on top of River Bobo in 10 of his 11 wins and there is no doubt plenty more wins in store for the five year old.

Friday night seen him carry the maximum topweight of 133 pounds, so it seems the gelding will simply keep on dominating the all weather Class 1 & 2 races with the company that he is keeping at the moment.

Champion trainer Sio Cheong and Luis Corrales had combined earlier in the night with River Treasure running out an easy winner in the 40 to 70 rated event over 1600 metres. That win came after Sio Cheong led in the first winner Big Success who held on to win the Class 6 over 1600 metres of a nice ride by Irishman Wayne Smith, giving Sio Cheong three for the night.

The decision by the Hong Kong Jockey Club some 18 months ago to lift the bar to the 70 plus rating mark for Private Purchase Imports has been a huge plus for Macau owners.

On Sundays turf program the former Gerald Ryan trained Master Kaopu (Intrusion) made it two from two on the turf when he made light of his 13 barrier to hit the line too strongly for Huka Eagle (Andrew Calder) in the Class 2 & 3 over 1200 metres.

That win followed a dazzling five length victory on October 22nd and there is plenty more in store for the son of Redoute’s Choice.

Master Kaopu was originally a $600,000 purchase at the 2014 Sydney Easter Sales no doubt as a Stallion prospect. That failed to come to fruition with his only win coming at Newcastle. However he did place in good Saturday company at Rosehill finishing ahead of Group 2 winner Japonisme on that occasion.

Normally a horse with that type of form would be an ideal horse for the Hong Kong market but because he lacked that magical 70 rating, the gelding wound up in Macau for a modest five figure sum, unlike the absurd huge six figure amounts paid for the 70 raters that go to Hong Kong now.

Sparta who is now rated 92 in Macau after arriving on a 60 mark has won four races from his eight starts and has four second places to his credit. His biggest beaten margin has been a half length.

Sweet Korean is another that arrived on a 65 rating and is currently on a mark of 99 in Macau after five straight wins on the turf. Best of Lick is currently rated 108 after arriving on a rating of 64 and has won his owners $3 million to boot including this year’s Macau – Hong Kong Trophy.

And there have been plenty of others in the past 12 months all landing here for a mere fraction of the price they would have commanded under the old Hong Kong PP conditions.
