Allendorf Unveils A New Star At Taipa

3 minute read

Trainer Geoff Allendorf looks to have a smart one on his hands in Luen On Star who ran out a very easy winner on debut at the final Macau meeting for 2016 on December 30.

Ridden by Mauritian rider Akash Aucharuz, Luen On Star made light work of gate 13 to cruise over and park three deep off the leaders in the run. Once heads were turned for home the son of Astronomer Royal (USA) quickly pounced on race favorite Tak Fai Of Pins (Luis Corrales) and raced away for a big win.

Luen On Star had caught the eye in a barrier trial prior when he showed good speed in finishing second to Class 1 performer River Bobo in good time. However most punters only had eyes for the Rambo Tse – KC Wong prepared Tak Fai Of Pins on the sand Friday night who went out at a quote of $1.5.

Geoff Allendorf was confident prior to the race that the three year would acquit himself well but was a little concerned with the wide gate.

“It’s a tough ask for a young horse first time under the lights and drawn out there in the widest gate.”

“But he was first out and traveled well and went right on with it and posted good time with it.”

Luen On Star clocked 1.02.8 for the 25 to 45 rated 1050 metre event, just .02 slower then Diva Achiever did in the 60 to 85 rated race for the same trip later in the night.

Luen On Star is another success story from the MJC’s Online Sales Concept that continues to produce winners.

From the 2015 sales that were telecast live to the MJC’s Members Lounge, Luen On Star is the tenth individual winner from the sales. The most successful from the 2015 Sales group has been Invincible who has won four from four to date.

“We paid $60,000 Aud for him at the Inglis Sales along with two others and one of those Luen On Treasure has already won a race for us.” Allendorf said.

“Gordon Benson picked this horse out more on type then breeding and suggested he would run well on the sand.”

“I’m very fortunate that my owner Mr. Thomas Lau is very patient and I have been able to take my time with the horses.”

“I left this horse with Donna Grisedale at Kembla to be educated and then bought him here late last year.”

The win was the start of a big night for Akash Aucharuz who kicked home a treble for the evening.

Aucharuz caused an upset in the Class 1 event over 1350 metres in scoring on the Alan Tam trained Central Station, who bolted away in the end to beat best Of Luck (Roger Yu). Hot favorite River Bobo who had been unbeaten in seven runs prior at the distance seemed off his game under jockey Luis Corrales, and struggled to hold third spot, wanting to drift out over the concluding stages suggesting all my not be well with the gelding.

Central Station has never been slouch when it comes to all weather racing and had won six races prior on the surface before Friday’s win, including one at the trip. That said it was felt that River Bobo simple had a mortgage on the race given that he had trounced the very same horses numerous time prior.

Aucharuz capped off his night with another easy victory in the last of the night on top of Stanley Chin’s New Zealand import Diva Achiever who ran away with the last the Class 2 & 3 over 1050 metres.

The son of Magic Albert (Aus) who won at Ellerslie and Rotorua when prepared by Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young, is putting together a nice record in Macau with two wins and two placed efforts from his six runs to date.

Irish jockey Wayne Smith continued his good run of success with a double on the night.

Smith charged late on Instantly Party to snatch victory right on the wire from favorite Who’s My Fan (Ryan Curatolo) in the 0 to 55 rated event over 1050 metres.

Instantly Party is prepared by Kim Cheong and Smith again teamed up with Cheong in the next race the 25 to 55 contest over 1600 metres to win on One From Many.

One From Many has always been a superstar in his trackwork in the morning but seldom puts it all together on race day. Friday night’s win however made it two on the trot and Wayne Smith seems to have the found the key to the four year old. With patient quiet rides the gelding has found the line well in his past two wins.

Friday night’s double gave Smith 10 winners for the season and moved him into equal third spot on the rider’s standings alongside Peter Ho. Luis Corrales leads the charge on 15 victories over Ryan Curatolo on 13 wins.
