A two year wait in getting English import Dutch Interior to the racetrack in Macau finally paid dividends, with the six year old producing a bold effort to win Fridays night’s Class 3 Handicap on the all weather surface at Taipa.

Ridden by Irish rider Wayne Smith, Dutch Interior was set alight away from the gates and made all of the running to put paid to race favorite Winbeauty Infiniti’s unbeaten sand record. In a daring move Smith had no hesitation in taking on the expected leader Winbeauty Infiniti (Luis Corrales), which proved the undoing of the favorite who weakened badly to finish in sixth place twelve lengths away.

Dutch Interior pinched a nice break at the top of the straight and had enough in hand to beat the fast finishing My Dream (Ruan Maia), with Hong Kong Storm (Peter Ho) running on well for third.

The son of Dutch Art had put the writing on the wall with a tough effort the week prior, with a brave second to Derby hopeful New Classicism over the same distance. With that run under his belt the gelding stepped out looking in tip top condition for Friday night’s assignment.

“That was a good gutsy win. He had to carry 133 pounds and did all the hard work in the run.”

“That was our intention to make the favorite work and it paid off.”

It’s been a long hard road for Dutch Interior to get back to the race track and Peter Leyshan was quick to acknowledge the patience of his owners Messrs. Mike Caddy and S. P Hussain.

“Without the patience and understanding of the owners the horse would have been retired two years ago.”

“He developed a serious hoof problem soon after he arrived and it looked as though he might never race again.”

“I have to thank the Club’s Master Farrier Vincent Bouquain for the great job he has done with the horse to get him back to the races.”

“Also my wife Michele for all the time she put in with him. It’s been a real team effort.”

Dutch Interior had won two races at Kempton in the UK prior to being exported to Macau. His last run in the UK was October 2014 and since his return to the racetrack in September last year, the gelding had placed in five of his seven runs on the all weather.

Friday night’s strong victory and the run time suggest a few more wins are in store, and the gelding should have no problems with the upgrade to Class 2.

Three year old Invincible continued on his winning way with dominant win in the Class 2 & 3 over 1050 metres on Friday night.

Ridden by Peter Ho, Invincible had no trouble accounting for his opposition with an easy all the way win over Golden Idol (Andrew Calder); with Valiant Solder (Horace Lam) close up in third.

Invincible has now won six out of his seven career race starts. His only defeat was a neck second to Evergreen Star, with the son of War Chant (USA) turning the tables on Evergreen Star beating him in their rematch three weeks later.

Trainer Louis Ho will step Invincible out for his much anticipated turf debut on April 22nd in the Lisboa Prelude over 1100 metres.

Peter Ho again took riding honors for the night with an earlier win on the Patrick Lee trained Cheerful Fish in the Class 4 over 1050 metres.

Cheerful Fish showed his customary dash out of the gates to dispute the lead with Unbreakable before darting clear in the straight for a nice win over Cali Champion (Luis Corrales), with Nickel Alloy (Horace Lam) in third.
