Trainer Geoff Allendorf has a real star in the making with his three year old gelding Luen On Star after he made it three wins from his three starts on the sand last weekend.

Ridden by Andrew Calder, Luen On Star blew his rivals away with a dazzling display of speed to lead throughout and record a seven and three quarter length win over Luen Ya Elegant (Peter Ho), with Nickel Alloy (Horace Lam) a distant third.

Luen On Star posted a slick 1.01.5 for the Class 4 event over 1050 metres which was .02 sharper then Evergreen Stars 1.01.7 for the Class 2 & 3 later in the night.

The gelding’s only defeat was a disappointing effort on the turf behind Happy Roaring in Class 3 when he finished a well beaten 13th of the 14 runners. That run however did not deter Andrew Calder who was full of confidence in a pre- race interview.

“He gave us every indication prior that he would run well on the turf being quiet a nice actioned horse, but he got a bit lost on the inside of them and it also ended up being a pretty hot field.” Calder said

“Geoff (Allendorf) gave him a break and he has done a treat since.”

Whether it was Luen On Stars inexperience on the turf, or the fact that the ground may have been too firm on the day, one thing is certain after Friday’s win is that Luen On Star looks to be on a fast track to the top on the sand.

“That was a great win and a great run time no doubt about it.” Geoff Allendorf said.

“The most important thing with the horse has been the patience of his owner Thomas Lau.”

“He is a very highly strung horse and can get very fiery at times, so we left him in Australia with Donna and Jon Grisedale at Kembla Grange.”

“We gave him plenty of time and I only bought him to Macau to get his rating set at the end of last season.”

“He is still a bit of a handful but we are in no hurry.”

Allendorf capped off a nice weekend for Thomas Lau when Luen On Treasure scored an impressive win in the 25 to 45 rated contest over 1200 metres on Sunday’s Easter race day.

Allendorf was again in the winner’s circle with the former New Zealand group performer Huka Eagle who took out the Class 1 & 2 over 1200 metres under jockey Wayne Smith.

“Luen On Treasure is another that we left in New Zealand for a long while after the Karaka Sales to give him time and it’s starting to pay us dividends now.”

Both Luen On Star and Luen On Treasure are products of the Macau Jockey Club’s 2015 Online Sales Concept that is fast becoming every bit as successful as the original 2014 Online Sales.

Luen On Star was a $60,000 Aud. purchase from the Inglis 2015 The Star Ready 2 Race Sale, whilst Luen On Treasure was a $60,000 purchase from the Karaka Ready To Run Sales.

Both horses have recouped their purchase price already.

To date from the 2015 Sales there has been 15 winners of 28 races from the 37 lots offered, with still plenty that are going to make lovely four year olds.
