Brilliant Macau Debut By Irish Import Fasuba

3 minute read

Irish import Fasuba gave young Macau trainer James Moore the perfect birthday gift with a dazzling win on the all-weather at Taipa on November 10.

Named after Africa’s fastest man Nigerian Olusoji Fasuba, the speedster lived right up to his name in running his rivals into the ground at his Macau debut.

James Moore turned 27n on the day. He has made a marvellous start to the new season with six winners to date, including picking up back to back wins in the G3 Autumn Trophy the weekend prior with Kelowna Star.

Moore has a real speedster on his hands in Fasbuba, a son of the Irish 2000 Guineas winner Power.

Ridden by South African rider Martin Wepner, Fasuba was well supported to jump just about joint favorite with My Passport and Happy Vegetable.

The three year old showed brilliant speed out of the gates to lead easily on the bridle. Once in the home straight Fasuba went right on with the job to run out a three lengths winner in a sparkling 1.01.6, just .01 outside the class record.

“What a great win with a great group of people here to support Fasuba and my birthday. I’m so happy he got the job done for his new owners in Macau it’s their first runner here.” Moore said.

Moore bought Fasuba from the yard of Tipperary trainer Fozzy Stack and the bay gelding became the traveling companion for his Dubai competitor The Happy Prince who Moore was shipping to Macau.

“He is one of the most attractive sprinters you’ll see and he’s still developing.”

“We were on to him before he won at Dundalk and we were blessed to get him for only $320,000 HKD.”

Moore has big plans for the youngster whose talents he feels are not just restricted to the all weather.

“If the bridge is finished and we’re able to bring horses across I’d like to aim him for a Group 3 over 1000 at Sha Tin later down the track.”

Macau’s latest sprinting sensation Yang Jiang Hero continued on his winning way with another dominant win in the New Zealand Bloodstock Ready To Run Sale Trophy over 1200 metres on the turf on Friday night.

Yang Jiang Hero made it four from four under regular rider Ruan Maia when he again led throughout to beat the fast finishing Stallion Elite (Cliffy Lai), with Bow Noculars (Kevin Leung) running in third in the Class 1 & 2 contest.

The four year old son of Duporth continues to raise the bar with every start on his rise to the top with his rating soaring from his Macau debut mark of 65 to his 98 status after Friday’s win.

The former Gerald Ryan prepared galloper who raced in Australia as Who Said It’s Easy, bolted in a Gosford maiden and placed third in Saturday company at Randwick.

The four year old bay has been a great buy for owner Ngai Yan Hong picking up over $800,000 HKD in his four wins in the enclave under the training partnership of Rambo Tse and K C Wong.

Bring Me Speed was another winner that is going places after making it three wins from four starts on Friday night in the 30 to 55 rated event over 1350 metres.

With regular hoop Wayne Smith in the saddle Bring Me Speed was always traveling sweetly in the run before darting away inside the two hundred to win easily from Superluck Master (Luis Corrales), with Happy Treasure (Horace Lam) in third.

Having his first run under the banner of the joint operation of Victor Chan and Kenny Seo, Bring Me Speed has all the qualities of a horse on the way up according to jockey Wayne Smith.

“He is a very honest horse with a bright future.”

“He handles both surfaces well and his next start he will step up to 1510 metres on the sand and I’m confident he’ll handle the distance.”

After Friday night’s racing Ruan Maia leads the riders standing on 14 wins nine ahead of Peter Ho on nine, Wayne Smith sits in third spot on six wins.

In the trainers listings Tony Fung and James Moore are both on six wins each, with the Rambo Tse – KC Wong yard on five wins along with K S (Danny) Wong.
