Lisboa Challenge Next For Exciting Macau Winner

3 minute read

Macau’s exciting youngster Bring Me Speed gave away age and weight to his rivals to record a dominant win over 1500m on the turf at Taipa on Saturday.

Ridden by regular rider Wayne Smith, Bring Me Speed was given plenty of time to settle from barrier 10 and only had one runner behind him as the field rushed into the back straight.

From the 800m Bring Me Speed started to sneak into the race via the rail but was desperately in need of a run. Then almost as if on cue the rail opened up and Bring Me Speed went from seventh spot to the lead in the twinkling of an eye.

The son of Sebring powered away from his opponents to win by close to three lengths from The Moon’s Back (Ruan Maia), with Chromium Alloy (Horace Lam) in third.

Bring Me Speed has now won five races and placed twice from his nine starts, with three of them under new trainer Victor Chan.

Chan will now aim the flashy three year old chestnut at next month’s $400,000 Listed Lisboa Challenge over 1500 metres on April 14.

Bring Me Speed was a winner on debut over 1050 metres on the sand and is a two time winner on that surface underlying his versatility to handle any type of track.

However the gelding has lost his early dash and excels off a quite ride, evidenced by his last to first victory in the Lisboa Juvenile over 1200m on March 4.

Jockey Wayne Smith was full of praise for the youngster after the win and admitted that he had a few moments of concern in the run.

“I was in a bit of bother I had plenty of horse under me but nowhere to go. I just decided to wait it out and then coming to the corner I could not believe how they opened up and it was game over then,” he said.

Beautiful Creative looks like a horse going places judging by his easy win in Saturday’s Class 4 over 1200 metres under Brazilian jockey Ruan Maia.

The powerfully built four year old strolled away from his chasers over the final two hundred for an easy win with something left in 1.09.4 just .02 slower then Bow Noculars in the Class 2 later in the day.

By the former Blue Diamond winner in Star Witness, Beautiful Creative was originally raced by the Aquis Farm Group in Queensland.

His six starts there resulted in a Maiden win at Ipswich when trained by Steven O’Dea. Saturday’s win was his first in Macau after seven starts but judging by his time and the ease of it there are better things in store then Class 4.

Macau’s newest jockey, the 22 year old Brazilian Fausto Henrique posted his first win in the enclave with a fine ride on the Alan Tam trained Superlative Choice to win the Class 4 & 5 over 1800 metres.

Henrique gave Superlative Choice the run of the race in fourth spot on the rail before popping into space at the top of the straight and pinching a handy break at the 200m, which enabled him to hold off the fast finishing Victory Achiever (Luis Corrales) to win by a head, with River Double (Andrew Calder) in third.

Henrique did his apprenticeship at the Rio de Janeiro Apprentice Jockey School in 2012 and was granted a jockeys’ license in 2013.

Since then he has ridden in Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Bahrain. Able to ride comfortably at 118 pounds, Henrique has 272 winners to his credit and has impressed all in Macau with his riding displays in just three race meetings.

Riding honors for the afternoon went to Peter Ho with a winning double.

Ho was seen to advantage on the Rambo Tse prepared Nam Kee’s Treasure in the Special Conditions Handicap over 1200 metres, and then backed up with a good win on Bow Noculars in the Class 2 over 1200 metres.

The win by Bow Noculars was full of merit as he worked hard from the wide gate after being set alight by Ho to cross a speedy lot inside him to lead, and then kicked away to win full of running at the wire.
