At the end of daily Track Work, Monday through Friday, there will be press conferences at 9:30 a.m. with various trainers, jockeys, owners and associated connections to Dubai World Cup Day runners.

Tuesday’s Press Conference 9:30-10:15

Dubai Golden Shaheen sponsored by Gulf News Edition!

CHAD SUMMERS

New York- and Florida-based trainer Chad Summers made waves last year when he saddled his first winner as a head conditioner in the Dubai Golden Shaheen with Mind Your Biscuits. Now, a year later, he returns with his top charge and looks primed for a repeat. Mind Your Biscuits has won only once since and has gone winless in his previous four starts, despite solid efforts in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint astern Roy H and Cigar Mile behind Sharp Azteca.

JORGE NAVARRO

Trainer Jorge Navarro has brought two horses here in as many years and finished on the board with a heavy favourite each time – but has yet to win. In 2016, his X Y Jet was beaten by Muarrab in the Dubai Golden Shaheen after a thrilling stretch-long battle. Last year, Sharp Azteca was third after a less-than-ideal trip in the Godolphin Mile. This year, he returns with the former after the swift sprinter recovered from a series of layoffs. Sharp Azteca was recently withdrawn from consideration for a return.

KENT DESORMEAUX

Jockey Kent Desormeaux is the rider of the top-rated dirt sprinter in the world, Roy H, who is the international favourite for the Dubai Golden Shaheen. He rode the Peter Miller trainee to victory in multiple G1 races, including last year’s Breeders’ Cup Sprint, defeating Mind Your Biscuits. Desormeaux is a Hall of Fame jockey, three-time Eclipse Award winner, three-time Kentucky Derby winner, three-time Preakness Stakes winner, Belmont Stakes winner and six-time Breeders’ Cup winner. On the international stage, he won the Yushun Himba (Japanese Oaks) in 2001, as well as Canada’s Queen’s Plate. In addition to Roy H, some of his top mounts include Big Brown, Kotoshaan, Exaggerator, Real Quiet, Best Pal, Fusaichi Pegasus and Premium Tap, upon whom he was second in the 2007 Dubai World Cup.

Media is requested to arrive at least ten minutes in advance. All Press conference videos (in HD) are available for download on the Dubai Racing Club website, along with trackwork footage (HD) and photographs from trackwork (high-resolution).
