Nunes had to pull out all stops to get Hanyang Gon Gju home in the fifth event the 1200 metres Class 5 for conditioner Park Dae H Eung, and then scored a runaway win on the Jung Ho lk prepared Jeongsang Champ in the Class 3 over 1200 metres. The Brazilian then rounded out his day with another big win on the Koo Ja Heu Ng prepared galloper Two Kay, who romped home in the Class 2 over 1800 metres.

“I’m very happy it’s not easy to win five races here.” Nunes said. “I think it’s a record.”

“So far everything is going good and I really appreciate the support.”

The ever humble Nunes added. “I feel like an apprentice here. Everything is new and I’m still learning about the place.”

Nunes added another two winners the following day with a double on Sundays eleven event program.

Nunes arrived in Macau in October of 2002 after a being an outstanding junior rider in Brazil winning over 400 races including the Triple Crown on the magnificent grey Quari Bravo. Within three seasons he was Champion jockey in Macau and dominated the enclave thereafter winning six jockeys premierships including the 2010 Macau Triple Crown on Luen Yat Forever and three Macau Derbies.

Singapore beckoned and with the departure of Joao Moreira Nunes soon took over as Champion jockey winning three straight titles from 2014 to 2016, before running second to Vlad Duric last year.

A short stint back in Macau early this year preceded the call to Seoul, and it appears Nunes is quickly going to make his mark in the burgeoning racing nation.
