Led by AWESOME STORM who was the runner-up in the Cup, they were expected to dominate the proceedings in the set-weight event.

However, it was MAGIC CAPTAIN, contesting a top-tier race for the first time, who started favourite (RM18) just ahead of AWESOME STORM (RM19) in the betting.

The result of the race also not what many expected.

Berry Bliss , who won Supreme A race on Tunku Gold Cup day, raised his game several notches to beat WHITE HOOF BIRD, KONG FU PANDA, VIOLET and AWESOME STORM to the post.

MAGIC CAPTAIN set a brisk pace and was three lengths clear racing into the straight with AWESOME STORM and BERRY BLISS, who has previously scored up to 1775m, giving chase.

MAGIC CAPTAIN started to shorten strides at the 200m with BERRY BLISS poised to strike while AWESOME STORM came under pressure as well.

BERRY BLISS hit the front with ease 100m out. Just then WHITE HOOF BIRD came charging home on his outside. In a thrilling battle to the line, BERRY BLISS fought on gamely to win by a head. It was his eighth win in 15 starts. He paid RM33.

"I'm very happy with his win," said Clyde Leck who has partnered BERRY BLISS in all his wins.

"He has improved tremendously from the past few runs and showed his class today. I believe he will be a Cup winner in time to come."

Trainer Charles Leck describes BERRY BLISS as a nice horse to train.

"He keeps improving with every run. He proved himself today racing against of the top-rated horses in Malaysia. He will win some nice races in the near future."
