Gamestonks hits pay dirt with Trophy win

3 minute read

GAMESTONKS left little doubt that he will be the horse to take over the mettle from the retired VOLCANIC GENERAL after the New Zealand gelding scored another impressive win in the Horse City Stakes (Metro A – 1200m) at Sungei Besi here today.

Volcanic General  won the Tunku Gold Cup an unprecedented three times in consecutive years and the Perak Gold Vase twice for trainer Charles Leck.

GAMESTONKS came over from New Zealand to the stables of Leck with a record of one win over 1200m and three placings up to 1600m. After a considerable delay to his local debut (of more than a year), the Showcasing gelding quickly showed his class winning his first four starts.

After being placed in two subsequent runs, GAMESTONKS is back at his best with two back-to-back wins.

Clyde Leck, who has been his only rider to date, was back in the saddle after returning from Singapore for a one-day appearance on Selangor Gold Cup day.

The pair's last outing — and victory — came in late July but GAMESTONKS showed he is as fit as ever despite the seven-week break to score by one and a quarter lengths after taking up the lead from the 1000m.

Gamestonks  was the third leg of a splendid treble for Clyde who has struggled to land another winner after a winning start to his stint in Singapore. He won on QIJI AUSTON in the opening event today and again on NAUGHTY KID two races later.

"Very happy to be back in the winner's circle. It's been a while since I rode a winner," said Clyde. "Thanks for the support I have here in Malaysia. I am grateful to be able to ride three winners on the first day back in Selangor.

"GAMESTONKS has always been a good horse and he is still improving although he is moving up in the grades. I believe he will be one of Malaysia's top sprinters in time to come."
