It has been three and a half months since trainer Ananthen Kuppan relocated from Penang to Kuala Lumpur.
During this time, he went through an exasperating run of minor placings by his runners including seven second-place finishes.
Ananthen can finally smile again. He finally broke the duck when he saddled not one but two winners at Sungai Besi here today.
Captain Legacy , who was placed in all his previous three runs since coming over from Singapore, finding one to beat twice, romped to an easy 4 1/4-length win in a Class 5 – 1200m handicap.
Costing A$80,000 as a yearling, the Sepoy gelding managed just one placing in 15 starts at Kranji but is now showing his true worth.
Two races later, Legacy Roar , a A$300,000 purchased as a 2YO, returned to winning ways to score a comfortable win.
Unplaced in eight starts in Singapore, the son of I Am Invincible was an instant hit in Malaysia after joining Ananthen's stable in late 2022, winning all his first three runs in the country.
But the six-year-old struggled to regain his form after that until late last year when he was placed twice, finding one to beat in VALERIE PEGASUS last time out.
The pair met again today, and LEGACY ROAR turned the tables with a 1 3/4-length win over VALERIE PEGASUS.
Both CAPTAIN LEGACY and LEGACY ROAR were ridden by Ruzaini Supien.
"Finally the pressure is off with a good start to the new season and a change of luck," said Ananthen who has currently 15 horses in training. CAPTAIN LEGACY and LAGACY ROAR are among six horses owned by Legacy Power Racing Stable in his stable.
"CAPTAIN LEGACY finally broke through with an easy victory after two seconds from three starts.
"I was confident of LEGACY ROAR winning his last start but he made amends today.
"I am very happy and hope 2024 will be a successful year for me with the support from my owners. I am also thankful to the Selangor Turf Club for giving an opportunity to train here."
