Burridge dares to Dream in Committee’s Prize

3 minute read

Trainer Steven Burridge thought Invincible Tycoon and Street Of Dreams are serious winning chances in the $110,000 Group 3 Committee’s Prize (1600m) on Saturday.

Between his pair, Street Of Dreams, in particular, looked well-weighted at 53.5kgs and was on a one-kilo swing on the 58.5kgs topweight Golden Monkey after being beaten by one-and-a-quarter lengths in the Group 3 Fortune Bowl (1400m) on 11 February.

Invincible Tycoon, the second highest-rated horse behind Golden Monkey (105) in the feature race on 97 points, will carry 54.5kgs and Burridge believed the pull in weights and good race fitness would put his pair right in the firing line.

"Both should run great," said Burridge, who knocked in his 851st winner in Singapore when Jungle Cruise won last Saturday.

"Both horses are third-up, so they're race-fit. Naturally, they will improve from having two runs under their belt this year and both of them gets weight from Golden Monkey.

"He (Golden Monkey) had the runs on the board but Street Of Dreams gets an extra kilo off him and that should count for something at the finish."

Burridge also reckoned that after an injury setback last year, Street Of Dreams would now be nearing his best, which saw the five-year-old son of Dundeel knock in six consecutive wins in 2022 and 2023.

"He (Street Of Dreams ) was out for six months after the (Group 1) Kranji Mile (1600m) in May last year," explained the Australian conditioner.

"We had him fit enough to run well when he made his return in January (in a Class 1 race over 1200m) but he wasn't race-fit.

"So his effort (finished fourth to Silent Is Gold) was good and obviously, he showed in the Fortune Bowl at his last start that he improved for the run.

"We gave him a trial the other day (finished second to Mr Black Back in trial no 2 on 27 February) and he's come on again, which is great.

"(Jockey) Ronnie (Stewart) gave him an easy half-mile this morning and I couldn't be happier with him.

"Hopefully, we get a nice gate and Ronnie can race in in the first four and he will have every chance."

Likewise, Burridge thought Invincible Tycoon would appreciate a good gate but admitted the five-year-old son of I Am Invincible would need to jump better than he did in the Fortune Bowl.

"He (Invincible Tycoon) has to step well to show his best," he continued.

"Unfortunately, he missed the start the other day (in the Fortune Bowl) and got caught wide, so to run sixth was pretty good in my opinion.

"You know he can finish in the mix at any level so if (jockey) Ryan (Curatolo) can have him midfield with cover, he will keep them all honest.

"Like the other horse (Street Of Dreams), he has improved fitness-wise for the two runs this year and I was happy with his recent trial (finished sixth to Pacific Emperor in trial no 2 on 29 February).

"So, he is race-fit and ready to show his best."

Of his Committee's Prize opposition, Burridge thought weight would play a big part at the handicap conditions.

"As much as Golden Monkey is the horse to beat, he still has to give some good horses plenty of weight," he continued.

"I think (trainer) Tim's (Fitzsimmons) other horse (Dream Alliance) will be in super with only 50.5kgs.

"He had excuses in the Fortune Bowl (found lame) but I thought he was good (finished second) in the same trial as Invincible Tycoon last week.

"Tiger Roar ran on super in the Fortune Bowl and he's on the minimum weight (50kgs), so watch out for him."

Burridge has eight other runners nominated on Saturday and he was keen to see how the promising Makin handles the step-up to a mile for the first time in the $70,000 Class 3 race over 1600m.

"It will be a good test heading towards the four-year-old races," he said of the son of Written Tycoon.

"He won over 1400m in this grade at his last start (in a Class 3 race on 24 February) but we want to see if he can handle the extra 200m with a bit more weight.

"No doubt he can sprint, so this will give us options going forward."

The three Group races opened for four-year-olds are the Group 3 Silver Bowl (1400m) on 9 June, the Group 2 Stewards' Cup (1600m) on 30 June and the Group 1 Singapore Derby (1800m) on 21 July.
