After more than a year out of action, Speedy Missile has been consistent but unable to make the breakthrough in six starts since joining the stables of Richard Lines.

His results in Malaysia thus far reads: 4-7-3-4-3-4.

The Australian gelding won five times in 25 starts in Singapore, ending his Kranji campaign with a winning double in Class 4 and 3 in mid-2022.

It was only last June that Lines took over the son of Smart Missile and within three months SPEEDY MISSILE was having his first trial, then his first race soon after.

Lines' hard work and patience with Speedy Missile  finally paid off when SPEEDY MISSILE overcame an slow start to win the Global Tote Trophy (Class 3 – 1100m) at Sungai Besi here today.

The race saw a very brisk pace set by MAGIC CAPTAIN and HIGH WATER with SURE WILL DO and TITAN PEGASUS giving chase. The quartet had a eight-length break to the rest at the 800m.

After his untidy start, SPEEDY MISSILE settled in sixth spot and jockey Laercio De Souza gradually worked his way to close the gap between him and the quarter in front at the top of the straight.

Last-start winner HIGH WATER took the lead at the 300m ahead of TITAN PEGASUS. SPEEDY MISSILE was just behind them with 200m to go.

The early effort by the front runners soon took its toll and SPEEDY MISSILE was able to race past them with ease 100m out to win by 1 3/4 lengths.

"We have always held this horse in high regards and we have been expecting a performance like this for some time now," said Lines.

"Laercio rode a good patience race after a tardy start and the horse won with some authority."

"It was also a big thrill to win a trophy race for Fairdeal Stable."

"The fast early pace allowed him to settle well and worked in our favour," said De Souza.
