Group One winner Slumdogmillionaire, who missed the Champions Season after having to have surgery for a bone chip on a fetlock, is back in light work with trainer Gavin Van Zyl.

Van Zyl reported that last season's SA Classic winner was back in light training at Summerveld and is being rehabilitated on the treadmill.

Van Zyl said after the horse’s scratching from the Vodacom Durban July that the injury was not serious but needed attention.

"Slumdogmillionaire is still young and is a serious horse that has a great future ahead of him," Van Zyl said.

“After the operation he rested to ensure a good recovery and his next mission will be the J&B Met.

“I will probably take him down to the Cape with a small string and train him there for the race to eliminate the travelling problem before the race.”

Meanwhile Gavin Schafer, who bred Slumdogmillionaire, revealed that his Australian-bred dam Make A Million was barren this past season.

The 18-year-old Mae A Million, by Last Tycoon, has a Fort Wood yearling filly on the ground and he will send her to either Western Winter or Trippi this season.
