"It’s not cast in stone at this stage but I think he will run in the Matchem, the Cape Classic at Kenilworth three weeks later and the Cape Guineas just before Christmas. He is a very good horse," Marshall said.

The Black Minnaloushe colt won three of his five starts last season and was favourite for the Premier’s Champion where he beat all except The Hangman.

Stable companion All Is Secret did better, winning three out of five including the Allan Robertson at Scottsvile and the Thekwini at Greyville, and she also has some big targets.

Marshall said: “The target for All Is Secret is the Cape Fillies Guineas on December 8 and she could also run in the Choice Carriers Championship the previous month.

“Valdivia will start in an allowance plate at Durbanville later this month and then she goes back there for the Diana Stakes on October 20.”

Valdivia won her first three starts before finishing third to All Is Secret in the Allan Roberston.

Both fillies were significant contributors to Marshall’s 56 wins last season.

In other plans Corne Spies has his impressive Golden Horseshoe winner War Horse also set for the Cape Guineas at Kenilworth on December 22.

Spies said: “He is a really nice horse and the sort to go for a stand-out race like the Cape Guineas.

"At the moment we are racing a few horses from a yard near Stilbaai but we are still contemplating whether to take a string down for the summer season or raid straight from Johannesburg.”
