SOUTH AFRICA: Run For It Gelded After Met Failure

3 minute read

Group One star Run For It has been gelded following his disastrous last in last month's J&B Met at Kenilworth.

Trainer Justin Snaith said he hopes the operation will make a difference to Run For It, a placegetter in two previous Mets and as well as a Cape Guineas.

“He put up no sort of a run and he was very disappointing. We will see if gelding makes any difference," Snaith said.

The five-year-old has made the frame in 16 of his 23 starts yet has only won three times.

Stable companion Dynamic, who went within half a length of flooring odds on favourite Capetown Noir in the Investec Cape Derby, could be Daily News-bound.

He has been raised 16 points to a merit rating off 99 and, while this is still 11 behind Dean Kannemeyer’s dual classic winner, the handicappers hold the view that the winner did not stay the Derby trip.

Snaith believes there is a lot more to come from Hassen Adams’ colt.

“He is a very smart horse and he has so much ahead of him, but he is still backward and so we are in no rush with him," Snaith said.

“At the moment plans are up in the air. I am always tempted by the money that’s offered in Johannesburg but we are also looking at Durban where races like the Daily News would be an option.

"We are planning what sort of string to take and are waiting to hear about the number of boxes.”

Meanwhile buyers are reported to be queuing up with bids for Sanshaawes who was beaten less than a length into third in the Derby.

Piet Steyn said: “There are a lot of people interested in buying him but it all depends on the right offer.

"I believe he would have won the Derby had it been a fast run race but it was run in a canter early and turned into a sprint.

“He is having a break but he looks a million dollars. He is so well in himself that he is nearly jumping over the paddock fence."
