SOUTH AFRICA: Jackson May Get A Second Chance

3 minute read

Brett Crawford's star Jackson may attempt to make amends for last year’s Vodacom Durban July flop after all.

Crawford talked of giving the country’s greatest race a miss when reviewing Jackson's below par performance in the J & B Met but seemingly he could change his mind.

He said: “We are going to go the weight-for-age route with Jackson in Durban and I would say that his first run will be in the Rising Sun Gold Challenge at Clairwood on June 8.

"After that we will take it race by race. We have to consider the July and we will certainly nominate him for the race.”

Crawford reports last year’s Cape Derby and Daily News winner is in good shape.

“He had a nice break, came back in on March 23 and he is looking good.

"We will prepare him as far as we can in Cape Town and take him to Durban around mid-May," he said.

Crawford plans to run both Thunder Dance and Frequent Flyer in the Empress Club Stakes at Turffontein on Friday.

Stable jockey Karis Teetan has decided to ride Thunder Dance, a little surprisingly considering last year’s Paddock Stakes winner has failed to run up to her best in her last two races as a result of well-documented wind problems.

Teetan said: “I flew to Johannesburg to ride them both work last Thursday and Thunder Dance was the best I have ever known her.”
