Snaith Wins Fourth Cape Filies Guineas

3 minute read

Trainer Justin Snaith landed his fourth Cape Fillies Guineas win in seven years when in The Fast Lane won the G1 event on an emotional day at Kenilworth on Saturda

The Guineas, the first G1 race of the Cape’s summer racing season and run just two days after the death of South African icon Nelson Mandela, has been won by some of South Africa’s greatest fillies including the half sisters Ebony Flyer and Captain’s Lover, champion Princess Victoria and Dubai Sheema Classic winner Sun Classique.

Snaith held a strong hand with four runners including In The Fast Lane and Highly Decorated, first and second in the recent G2 Fillies Championship.

Other fancied runners included last season’s champion 2-year-old filly Along Came Polly and the consistent Alascan Maiden.

In The Fast Lane has now won four of her six outings and joins Snaith’s previous winners Captain's Lover, Sparkling Gem, and Ebony Flyer.

In The Fast Lane, raced well back early in the big field of 16 and was nearer last than first before she produced a strong finish up the center of the Kenilworth straight to win going away by a length.

Lanner Falcon put up an impressive performance to come from last for second while Along Came Polly was third, beaten 1 3/4 lengths.

In The Fast Lane was the second G1 winner in a week for her deceased sire Jet Master after Yorker won the Sansui Summer Cup on November 30.

In The Fast Lane is the 20th individual G1 winner by Jet Master, who died in 2011.
