Variety Club Retired To Stud

Dual South African Horse Of The Year Variety Club has been retired and will return home to stand at Klawervlei Stud in 2015.

Bred by the Beaumont Stud and raced by Markus and Ingrid Jooste, Variety Club won 14 races and finished unplaced only once in 19 starts in South Africa.

His wins included five G1 races in the Cape Guineas in 2011, the L'Ormarins Queen's Plate and two renewals of the Rising Sun Challenge.

He went on to race in Dubai where he woin the G3 Firebreak Stakes and G2 Godolphin Mile where he beat fellow South African champion Soft Falling Rain and French 1000 Guineas winner Flotilla.

He had his final start in Hong Kong where he won the G1 Hong Kong Champions Mile defeating Able Friend and subsequent Singapore International Cup winner Dan Excel.

Originally trained by Joey Ramsden, Variety Club was transferred to the Mike de Kock yard toward the end of his career and retires with 17 wins in 23 starts.

Out of the Secret Prospector mare La Massine, Variety Club will be the first son of former South African sprint champion Var to retire to stud in South Africa.
