Yoga Govander has resigned as private trainer for leading South African owner Sabine Plattner.

Plattner informed Govender early in the season that she intended to cut down her near 100-horse string.

Govender announced that he would no longer be training for Plattner at Kenilworth on Saturday.

“It was a mutual decision and I feel this is the right time for me to go on my own. I want to move back to Durban and I have applied for boxes at Summerveld,” he said.

“I am proud of my achievements with Plattner Racing and my good strike rate with the horses. I’ve had around 315 winners including several Graded races, notably the 2013 J & B Met with Martial Eagle.”

Govender, 41, was promoted to private trai8ner for Plattner when Brett Crawford quit the post in 2009 after being his assistant trainer for four years.

He previously worked for Glen Kotzen and Michael Dickinson.
