De Kock Outlines Plans For Majmu

Outstanding filly Majmu is set to bypass her engagements on Champions Day and take the Daily News route to South Africa’s biggest race, the Durban July.

Majmu is entered in three races on Champions Day at Turffontein on Saturday week and was expected to be a starter in either the G1 President’s Champions Challenge over 2000m, the G1 SA Oaks over 2450m or the G2 Gerald Rosenberg Stakes over 2000m.

However trainer Mikle De Kock has posted new plans on his website after Majmu continued her winning run with an impressive win in the Empress Club Stakes last Saturday.

De Kock said Majmu will go to Durban for the Daily News 2000 as her lead up to Vodacom Durban July.

“We’ll be discussing Majmu’s future with Sheikh Hamdan and Angus Gold, we’ll be looking at export flight schedules, but at this stage the Durban July via the Daily News is the most likely option we’ll exercise with her,” he said.

“Majmu’s done everything we’ve asked of her and she’s top class but she has more to prove, more to conquer.

“I have read some reports in the media about her being the best filly I’ve trained.

“I can’t recall putting that on record. Majmu may well turn out to be the best, but right now Ipi Tombe remains at the top of my list by virtue of what she achieved.”
