Veteran Jockey Karl Neisius Battling Injury

Veteran South African jockey Karl Neisius is expected to be out of the saddle for at least six weeks following the recurrence of a lower back injury.

Neisius, who at 58 years of age is the senior statesman of the South African jockey ranks, is being guided by his medical specialists over his career future.

“I have been active my whole life and it is frustrating being injured but I will try and maintain my fitness levels through regular swimming,” he said.

Neisius has ridden four winners so far this season, with his last success at Durbanville on September 12, It was the last meeting he rode at.

Neisius started riding horses at the age of four and started at the SA Jockey Academy when he was 14.

The veteran rode his 3000th career winner in 2012 and has won a host of G1 races in his 40-year career.
