Tarry made it back to back wins in 2015-2016 after notching his first training title a season earlier.

He looked in command of the title for some time with Tarry’s runners ending the season with 209 wins, 18 more than runner up Justin Snaith.

Tarry’s starters earned R27,999,562, more than R8 million ahead of the Snaith yard.

Notable winners saddled by the champion trainer last season included leading Horse Of The Year contender Legal Eagle, whose three G1 wins during the past season included the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate and Premier’s Champions Challenge.

Other G1 winners saddled by Tarry last season included the fillies Carry On Alice and Cloth Of Cloud, whose victories included the G1 World Sports Betting Computaform Sprint and G1 SA Nursery respectively.

S’Manga Khumalo, who had previously made history by becoming the first black jockey to land the G1 Vodacom Durban July on the Tarry-trained Heavy Metal, recorded his second jockey premiership win, ending the 2015-2016 season with 242 wins.

Khumalo, who picked up his first jockey title in 2013, ended the season 32 clear of runner up and former champion Anthony Delpech.
