Preview and form for Scottsville

3 minute read

Preview and form for Gold Circle's meeting at Scottsville on Sunday.

Race 1

Preview: Mostly first timers. HOPPERTUNITY has the benefit of having had a race but was well beaten and one never knows what he will be up against here.

Race 2

Preview: Some smartly bred first timers in the field but of those that have run, RAINBOWINTHESKY has been rested but good improvement at just her second start and looks ready to put in another forward showing. STARWIN was a beaten odds-on chance at her last start. She has been a model of consistency but is beginning to look limited. SPACE NEEDLE made a promising debut on this course and come on from that. MISS MIDAS has had four stars in just over a month, most recently last Sunday, so she will strip fit. However, she is struggling and may prefer it a touch further. UP IN SMOKE made marked improvement at her last start and can feature. DREAM DE RA is the half-sister to Miss Frankel and could prove to be the pick of the debutants. (Andrew Harrison: 11-15-1-7).

Race 3

Preview: Weak field but MIDNIGHT MAN has shown up well in two starts over the distance and from pole position draw is the one to beat. MY BOY WILLIE has improved in two recent sprints. He is bred for further and should enjoy this step up in distance. REBEL CIRCUS was much improved last outing when tried in blinkers and rates a chance in this company. LUPO is another that can improve over the extra. (Andrew Harrison: 1-5-2-8).

Race 4

Preview: ROY’S MARCIANO met much stronger last run but has good form on this course prior to that. He steps up in trip here but that should not trouble him. WYNKELDER surprised on debut winning at very long odds. He won well and could be anything. One to watch in the market. ROY’S WINTER PATCH has some smart poly form but did improve last run in blinkers and has a strong chance on his best effort over his best distance. FULLY CHARGED has improved in blinkers and was a close-up second over course and distance. He has a light weight with an inform jockey so is another to consider in an open race. (Andrew Harrison: 2-1-3-7).

Race 5

Preview: Tricky race. MY PAL AL has a touch of class and showed that when tried in blinkers for the first time. He is up in trip but can follow up. COCKADE has some useful Highveld form and consistency was rewarded last run. However, he takes on some quickly improving younger horses. MR O’NEILL has won his last two and has been much improved since gelding. His form has panned out well. HEIR LINE and ROMAN EMPEROR both shed their maidens in good fashion and look to have some scope. (Andrew Harrison: 4-2-8-1).

Race 6

Preview: VELVET WIND has improved in blinkers and goes well this distance. She rates a strong chance. ROY’S SNOWDROPS shed her maiden at second time of asking and looks to have some scope. This is not a strong field and she can follow up. BRIGHTNUMBERFIVE has only once been out of the money and will have needed her last sprint after returning from a break. Much better this trip. TRIP QUEENS made a fair local debut but has been rested since. She had fair Highveld form before that and can feature. One to watch in the market. (Andrew Harrison: 3-1-5-6)

Race 7

Preview: Wide open but STREET FLYER is a Highveld raider with consistent recent form and looks likely to feature prominently. ONE MAN SHOW made marked improvement when fitted with a tongue-tie. He looks to have some scope and can follow up. PUTCHINI has a difficult draw to contend with but has been running well of late. He found one too good for him last time out. CAPTAINS MOLL is a filly against males but had dropped five points in the ratings and can feature here. (Andrew Harrison: 2-1-3-7).

Race 8

Preview: MODESTY was a touch unlucky last run but has improved with each outing and looks ready now. RAES’ DYNA JET was a beaten favourite two runs back when tried in blinkers. She did improve last run and could be ready now. INTERCEPT was a beaten favourite in a sprint last run. She can prove better this trip and make amends. BAOBAB was not far back when tried over the distance last start. She can improve on that showing and should be thereabouts. (Andrew Harrison: 1-2-3-5)
