Form for Kenilworth

3 minute read

Preview and form for the meeting at Kenilworth on Sunday. Selections by Warren Lenferna.

Race 1

Preview: BLOW IN THE BOX disappointed last time in the fact that he was my selection to win and never justified favoritism however he ran a very good race finishing a close up second to Phelan Lucky. He has been around the turn now and is likely to be a bit more street wise and I have confidence in him again and am tipping him to win. BEN-HUR certainly caught the eye on debut and should give plenty of cheek all the way home. He tries the bend for the first time and how green he will be is an unknown but he looks to have ability and should make a race of it. KLOPP is coming along the right way and looks to have a bright place chance. (Warren Lenferna 2-1-6)

Race 2

Preview: A small but competitive field: ABOVE ELEVEN improved last time and probably still has more to offer. CHESTNUT’S CHARM needs big improvement. GOLD KIND could lurk into the back end of the quartet. HOPEFUL ran well last time and is relishing the 1400m – big runner. MARA has tons of scope to improve. RINGS AND THINGS disappointed last time when a beaten red hot favourite but should be hard to beat today and SEATTLE SOUND improved last time and more improvement looks to be on the cards. (Warren Lenferna 6-4-7)

Race 3

Preview: An early scratching number (4) BAFFERT. OFF BROADWAY tries the 1400m trip for the first time and being out of a Fort Wood mare should enjoy it. He showed big improvement from his debut run to his second run and he surely has more to offer. He looks very hard to beat and his neat draw is a huge help as well. MANHATTAN ICE gets the best draw, also tries the trip for the first time and is coming along the right way. He should make his presence felt at the business end of things. MINI LOUSHE is coming to hand slowly and is a must for the quartet – the Andre Nel stable is in mustard form. (Warren Lenferna 11-10-6)

Race 4

Preview: Trainer Andre Nel holds a very strong hand here and it looks to be a boat race between his two runners. RIVERBOAT QUEEN never found the frame when sent to the start as the favourite last time and it is best to draw a line right through that run. If she reproduces and improves on her penultimate effort she should be able to win this race. She is by Querari and he is having winners very regularly. Stable mate LADY LI LAY can improve on her fair debut effort. She seems to be bred for the mile (which she gets today) and she should be right there at the finish giving cheek to her stable mate. DARK SIENNA did okay with blinkers last time and is one for the short list. (Warren Lenferna 3-9-2)

Race 5

Preview: SISTER SOOZIE won her maiden at her penultimate start very impressively and followed that up with another good run first time in open company. She has run only four times for a win and three places so is clearly talented. She takes on males in this race but looks more than capable of the task. The training combination of Carl Burger and Riaan Van Reenen hold a strong hand here with both their runners SOARING PAST and PUT THE BERRIES having bright chances of earning money. Include them both in the quartet. (Warren Lenferna 3-2-7)

Race 6

Preview: SUPERCILIOUS is in fine form and has won her last two impressively. She seems to run well over 1200 and 1400m so the drop in distance should not be too much of a concern. She is returning from a rest but should run fresh. LOVE TO BOOGIE is unbeaten in two starts and is useful – big runner. IMPALA LILY brings some useful KZN form into the race and she deserves the utmost respect and must be included in most bets. (Warren Lenferna 3-10-1)

Race 7

Preview: NGAGA has run three times and won three times. She is very well related and when tried over the mile for the first time last time in a MR 76 Handicap, she won and won very well. This will no doubt be her toughest test to date but one cannot help to get the feeling that she might very well be up to the task! WHOSE THAT GIRL is the obvious one they all have to beat as she won well last time and SYLVANITE has good form and should be right there at the finish. (Warren Lenferna 4-1-6)

Race 8

Preview: OUR MATE ART has been running very well and from watching most of his races one gets the impression that he should be very well suited to the 1800m’s he gets today. AFRICAN NIGHT SKY did finish the better last time beating him but that was over the mile. It does look to be a battle between these two. LOADSHEDDER finished behind the top two selections and it could well be very much a form result here based on their last runs. (Warren Lenferna 2-1-5)

Race 9

Preview: COME ON SONNY ran a cracker first time in open company last time and based on that should again be very competitive here. PACK A PUNCH could round off a very good day for the Andre Nel yard. He is lightly raced and won his maiden well last time and could follow up from that – respect, big runner. GREENFLASHSUNSET has been there and thereabouts and should put in a big run one of these days – I have a feeling he is better than his recent form suggests as when he won his maiden he won very well – follow and include in the quartet. (Warren Lenferna 1-5-3)
