Preview and form for Kenilworth

3 minute read

Preview and form for the meeting at Kenilworth on Saturday. Selections by Warren Lenferna.

Race 1

Preview: WEEKEND WARRIOR showed encouraging improvement in his second start. The progeny of Crusade are running well and are threatening to start firing very soon! He nearly won last time but Dollar Tractor found a bit more to win – he has strong winning claims. LOVE TO FLY was not far behind Weekend Warrior in the race won by Dollar Tractor and another bold performance can be expected. BERNIE made a good debut but followed that up with a poor run. There must have been an excuse for the run and he can be forgiven that and must be included. (Warren Lenferna 8-6-2)

Race 2

Preview: DAYONAUT ran a cracker at long odds last time and will need to confirm that recent improvement – if he does, he will have a strong chance here. SPRING GOLD is better than his last run shows and based on his overall form will have a bright chance. Stable companion REBEL’S BURST is taking on the boys but if she brings her best form today, she can place however she is well tried. (Warren Lenferna 6-5-10)

Race 3

Preview: TIME TO THINK is running well and nearly won last time. She takes a drop in distance today which should not be a concern as some of her good runs have been over 1200m. She does not bump the strongest maiden field ever assembled and today looks to be her day to shine. I AM CAPTAIN has only raced half the amount of times as Time To Think and might just have a bit more to offer. She should be right there at the finish. OSTINATO is the only two year old in the race and won’t find it easy to topple the older rivals but her last run was encouraging and it might well be worthwhile including her in the back end of the quartet. (Warren Lenferna 1-4-12)

Race 4

Preview: A very tough race! ICON KING is going for four in a row and it could well happen but it certainly will not be easy. He took a bit of time to win and seems to have just got better from run to run. He won well last time when beating Our Mate Art whom ran second in a feature race over this past weekend – the form is good and if he had to win again, it would be no shock at all. QUICKFIRE is doing well and looks to be useful and is worth including in most bets. FIRE MASTER will definitely benefit from the more than capable claiming apprentice and is another in a tough race with a chance. (Warren Lenferna 3-6-1)

Race 5

Preview: CORTADA has found his form and has been knocking hard at the door in his last two starts. He now looks ready to notch up his second career win. CARDINAL CALL is very consistent and it would simply be foolish to not give him a chance. He beat Cortada in his penultimate start and ran close up to Al Wahed – big runner. WESTERN STORM has fair enough form to include in the quartet. (Warren Lenferna 5-2-6)

Race 6

Preview: A small but very competitive field will go to post for the 2017 running of the Kenilworth Fillies Nursery (Listed) event over 1200m. LANARK was impressive when winning on debut and could be anything – the stable is in mustard form. MAGICAL WONDERLAND is unbeaten two from two and can easily record the hat trick. NANNA ANNA has a bit to find to win. OH SUSANNA won in the manner of a good horse last time and is one to follow. She is beautifully bred and has been selected to win this race. ROSE IN BLOOM must be included in the quartet as her form is consistent and TOO PHAT TO FLY has done very little wrong. (Warren Lenferna 4-1-2)

Race 7

Preview: The Cape Of Good Hope Nursery (Grade 3): DUTCH PHILIP looks something very special. The manner in which he has won his races has been thrilling. He looks hard to beat here. SPEEDPOINT got close to Dutch Philip last time and the same could be on the cards today but I am definitely in Dutch Philip’s camp. ZODIAC JACK is no slouch and he has done okay since winning his maiden by just over five lengths – he should run well and must be included in trifectas and quartets. (Warren Lenferna 3-5-8)

Race 8

Preview: GIMME ONE NIGHT has solid form and must be considered for the win. BENJAN has won his last two and if he were to reel off the hat trick it would be no shock at all. There is not much between Gimme One Night and Benjan. They should both be right there at the finish. PLANO won his maiden well last time and might have more to offer – respect. (Warren Lenferna 4-5-6)

Race 9

Preview: WANING CRESCENT finished far back position wise last time but was only 3,90 lengths off the winner Dark Chocolate – it was not the worst run ever seen but she can certainly do better as her earlier form suggests. She has a wide draw to overcome and if doing so can get into the shake up. ELUSIVE WAVE ran well at long odds last time. If confirming and improving on that recent improvement she should once again be right there at the finish. MISS CARRERA was far from disgraced first time out the maidens and could run well here. (Warren Lenferna 1-2-4)

Race 10

Preview: ELUSIVE EMPRESS is in good form and is way overdue to record her second career win. She looks tough to beat here and is selected with some degree of confidence. MIDTOWN MANHATTAN will have a huge chance if putting in an effort like she did in her penultimate start – her last run was also good and she comes into this race with serious claims. QUIPPI has not been far off in two runs out the maidens and in this large but fairly trappy race could lurk into the back end of the quartet. (Warren Lenferna 15-14-8)
