Preview and form for Scottsville

3 minute read

Preview and form for Gold Circle's meeting at Scottsville on Saturday. Selections by Andrew Harrison.

Race 1

Preview: ROYAL CRUSADE is from a powerful Highveld stable and made a promising Turffontein debut. He’s not down for a holiday. PERFECT JAY made a smart debut against winners and will much prefer this trip. He does have a tricky draw. RED EIGHT has gone well in two sprints and should do better this trip. MAN FROM SEATTLE improved nicely at his second start and is another than should do better over this trip. He does have the best of the draw. (Andrew Harrison: 10-6-8-5).

Race 2

Preview: Wide open. BRAVE AND BOLD is a game mare and did well in the first two legs of the series. She has the best of the draw. ROYAL AGREE was not far back to Brave And Bold last time out from the worse of the draw. Morne Winaar is second on the log in the chase for the R50k bonus so will be riding for his life. THE POET was a narrow winner last time out but is another holding form. He too can do better over the extra. REACTIVE has been close-up in both series races and is also effective over the trip. (Andrew Harrison: 4-2-1-5).

Race 3

Preview: KAHULA was not too far back in the first two legs of the series but will much prefer this trip. PUTCHINI sits on the same number of points as Brave And Bold in the first leg. The trip could be a touch on the far side but he has the best of the draw and should go close again. ROY’S TAXI enjoyed the extra when close-up last run. He rates a strong chance on that showing. MARK MY CARD takes a rating drop and although she carries top weight she will prefer this trip. (Andrew Harrison: 3-4-2-1).

Race 4

Preview: VISUALITY has shown up well in some useful company. She has a fair weight but looks capable. VARIANCE has her third run after a break. Her last run was her first since arriving from the Cape and she can do better this time around. FLYING SILVER has been making steady progress of late. She was close-up against males last time out and is another in with a winning chance. SPAN DIE SEILE has improved in blinkers and goes well this trip. The stable is in good form. BRIGTNUMBERFIVE won well over course and distance last time out. She does meet stronger here but must rate a winning chance. (Andrew Harrison: 1-3-6-5).

Race 5

Preview: GREEN PLAINS can cement her place as the top juvenile sprinting filly in the country with victory here. The form of her last two wins has worked out well and she won the SA Fillies Nursery with authority. NEPTUNE’S RAIN was most impressive when beating the highly rated Made In Hollywood and has had the advantage of having done all her racing at Scottsville. TOUCH OF MAGIC lived up to her name when romping home on debut. She meets much stronger here but she is highly rated and could be anything. TWELVE OAKS seems a touch better than her Nursery effort and can surprise. (Andrew Harrison: 7-9-11-12).

Race 6

Preview: NAAFER finished second best to the highly rated stable companion Mustaaqeem in the SA Nursery and had a good field behind him. The testing Scottsville track should suit and he rates the one to beat. SAND AND SEA made an impressive debut when all over the course before the penny dropped and he managed to get up to beat Al Mariachi, also in this race. He cannot afford to race green here but he should benefit from the experience. PROCAL HARUM made a smart debut against winners and followed up with a game win next time out. He should prefer this trip. KEANAN’S ROCK was left standing when making his debut losing many lengths at the start. However, he finished like an express train. He meets stronger here but could be anything. WOLJAYRINE made good improvement on his debut effort to beat a smart feature field to shed his maiden. He comes from a yard with a good record in this race. (Andrew Harrison: 5-7-6-12).

Race 7

Preview: CARRY ON ALICE will be a hot favourite. Already a winner of this race two years back, she has game and consistent form. She lacked a bit extra when beaten in the Computaform Sprint but can put the record straight here. She faces some smart three-year-olds. THE SECRET IS OUT and LIVE LIFE are both top class and the latter beat Carry On Alice in the Sceptre Stakes. The Secret Is Out regained her best form when tried in blinkers and VISION TO KILL ran a cracker when sandwiched between the two in the Poinsettia Stakes. A cracking race. (Andrew Harrison: 1-9-10-12).

Race 8

Preview: TALKTOTHESTARS, rated the best horse in the country after his victory in this race last year, has tumbled in the ratings but he showed a glimpse of his best form when finishing like a rocket when second in the Computaform Sprint beating favourite Carry On Alice. He has been a touch unreliable of late but he came good at this time last year and appears to be hitting top form again. JANOOBI has won two Guineas in recent months and on the face of it this looks a touch short. However, he shows good pace and the Scottsville track will suit. He also has a light weight. LONDON CALL was unlucky not to make last year’s field but is unbeaten in four this term. He has his problems but on his day can match it with the best of them. ATTENBOROUGH won well from a tricky draw last start and also comes into the picture in an open race. (Andrew Harrison: 1-15-3-12)

Race 9

Preview: PALLADIUM is just behind the best three-year-olds around and goes well over course and distance. He does have a big weight. HEAD HONCHO may just have needed his last run and comes off some promising Cape form. He looks to be a big runner. WYNKELDER does not have the best of the draw and has been up against useful opposition of late. However, he does look to have some scope and could be the surprise package. ROY’S AIR FORCE has consistent form over shorter. The extra should not be a concern and he is another in with a winning chance along with LONELY ARE THE BRAVE and CARBON OFFSET. (Andrew Harrison: 1-12-5-4)
