Preview and form for Greyville

3 minute read

Race preview for the meeting at Greyville on Saturday. Selections by Andrew Harrison.

Race 1

Preview: CHAMPENOIS made a smart debut when touched off over 1400m on the poly. She should come on from the experience and can go one better. BELIEVETHISBEAUTY was a close-up third in that same race. She is the more experienced of the two s there is unlikely to be much between the two again. FLICHITY BY FAR was still green when second best on the poly and should come on from that showing. GIRL IN GOLD raced green in a promising debut and is another that should come on from the experience. (Andrew Harrison: 2-1-5-6).

Race 2

Preview: Wide open. STORM KITTEN has been up against stronger in the past and shown up well. She is effective over course and distance and should be in with a shout. ROYAL KAITRINA has also been up against slightly stronger at recent outings. She has a handy galloping weight and a good draw in her favour. GO WITH FLO was an easy course and distance winner last time out. She does carry more weight here but has a lot going for her. GORGEOUS GUEST and SPACE NEEDLE both enjoyed the poly when shedding their maiden and can feature. (Andrew Harrison: 5-12-2-3)

Race 3

Preview: ELEGANT GENERAL took on feature company at his second start. He was a well-backed winner on the poly when making his debut and could prove a touch too good for a bunch of modest handicappers. HOT CHILLI has done well in stronger company than what he meets here but will need to show his best form. WINTER AURALIUS now tries blinkers and although he has been racing over further he could be sharp enough for this race. FIGARO shows some promise but his best form has been over further. He is one to watch in the betting. (7-5-9-1).

Race 4

Preview: CLIFTON SUNSET made a smart poly debut over a sprint. She has gone well over this trip and from a good draw may be the one to beat. Should she fail then the list of possible winners is a long one. KARATAGE has cracking poly form and won well last time out. NIKKI has some useful Highveld form. She makes her poly debut but is over her optimum trip. VOGUE IDEA is a little long in the tooth but has smart form on the poly although she may refer it a touch further. (Andrew Harrison: 3-10-8-2).

Race 5

Preview: Tricky. WANDIE’S takes a big drop in class. Corresponding rise in weight but this looks the right race for her. VALLANAUT does not have the best of draws but now tries blinkers and has a claiming apprentice up. WILLOWGRANGE has consistent form over course and distance. She does face slightly stronger here but looks capable. CAPTAINS MOLL has not been far back at recent outings. She can feature on her best effort. (Andrew Harrison: 1-2-6-7)

Race 6

Preview: MY WORLD has consistent staying form in the Cape. He probably just needed his local debut over shorter and should prefer this trip. BANNER HILL found is tougher going in the wet in the Betting World 1900 last time out. Although he has good form over shorter he seems more effective over this type of trip. THREE BALLOONS also looked in need of his local debut and will also prefer this trip. MR O’NEILL goes this trip for the first time but looks useful and has a chance off this weight. (Andrew Harrison: 7-1-9-10).

Race 7

Preview: Wide open. EPONA won well enough on the poly last time out but stays the trip well and boast some useful Cape form. GIMME SIX has won well in both local starts over shorter. If she stays the extra she may prove difficult to beat. ORCHID ISLAND may have found the Oaks trip a touch far after winning the Fillies Classic in style although Delpech has jumped ship to partner Gimme Six. ORIENTAL OAK was not far off in the Classic and Oaks and from a good draw should be right there again. SMILING BLUE EYES disappointed at her last two but cannot be written off lightly. (Andrew Harrison: 7-1-4-9).

Race 8

Preview: AL SAHEM has yet to finish further back than second. He was spot on for the SA Derby and a repeat of that effort could see him hard to beat. EDICT OF NATES was an excellent second in his warm-up for this race giving the winner 6kg. He won the Cape Derby in good fashion and should be a threat. HORIZON was disappointing in the Daisy Guineas but can do better over this trip. ZODIAC RULER has not been far back since being gelded. This is his third run after a spell and should be cherry-ripe. (Andrew Harrison: 1-2-6-5).

Race 9

Preview: Wide open. VINE STREET STAR is very quick and loves this course and distance. She also has a light weight. VARBRATION has his third run after a break and is showing signs of his best form He takes a big drop in the ratings. ISCA was not far back in the Computaform Sprint and is back in blinkers. CALL ME WINTER has a big weight for a filly but loves the poly while BONNIE DAWN and DOING IT FOR DAN are also not out of it. (Andrew Harrison: 9-7-10-1).

Race 10

Preview: Another wide open affair. ZINNAVAR has consistent Cape form but does return from a lengthy break. The poly could bring out the best in him. LA FERRARI was a maiden winner at his second outing. He does look to have some problems but does not meet a strong field. GREAT VALUE enjoyed the soft going last run. He has done well on the poly before and can feature in a difficult race. BENGAL BOY has come good on the poly of late. He has a tricky draw but rates a winning chance. (Andrew Harrison: 3-5-4-8)
