Honneur merits Hereford respect

3 minute read

Jane Williams has a fine strike rate at Hereford and Honneur d’Ajonc can add to her record at the track by taking the Hereford Motor Group Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase.

Though yet to get off the mark over fences in four starts, the six-year-old has shown improvement with each run.

While beaten 31 lengths by Jonbon when last of four in the Henry VIII Novices' Chase at Sandown, that day out in Grade One company saw him mature and he was subsequently a close-up second to Our Jet when back up in trip and in calmer waters at Leicester.

He runs off a 4lb higher mark which, given the likely improvement, seems fair in a race that will not take a lot of winning.

Magic Saint returned from almost a year on the sidelines and understandably tired late behind Elixir De Nutz at Wincanton earlier this month.

A five-time winner over fences, the Paul Nicholls-trained nine-year-old was a regular performer in good company a couple of seasons ago, posting wins at Newbury and Cheltenham.

After that fair comeback and a little match-fitter, he gets a useful 7lb taken off by the champion trainer's daughter, Olive, and would appear to hold a great chance of landing the Hereford Motor Group Open Hunters' Chase.

Age seems no barrier to Kansas City Chief. The 14-year-old returns to Plumpton, the scene of his previous success last March on the back of a decent placed effort at Doncaster.

On the same mark, Oliver Sherwood's grand campaigner still shows plenty of zest and can earn a sixth hurdles win of his career in the three-mile-one-furlong Tysers Handicap Hurdle.

Homme Public was sent off favourite for a Musselburgh handicap hurdle on the back of finishing a close-up third to the smart Love Envoi at Sandown.

While things did not quite go his way there, the Oliver Greenall and Josh Guerriero-trained six-year-old takes a small drop in class and that may make the difference in the Broughton Handicap Hurdle at Huntingdon.

Olly Murphy's string has been in fine form over the last couple of weeks and Enduring Love can strike in the Alconbury Handicap Chase.

The 11-year-old showed plenty of zest when chasing home Lord Sparky at Fakenham previously over three miles and five furlongs, which taxed his stamina. Dropping back half a mile to his regular trip should put him in a better light.

All-weather action comes from Wolverhampton, where after a string of five consecutive runner-up efforts, Wadacre Grace can finally earn a second success for Charlie Johnston in the Talksport Download The App EBF Fillies' Handicap.

Mighty River can confirm placings with Tabaretta and follow up his recent Lingfield success in the It's Time To Turn To Talksport Handicap for James Tate.
