Thirsk plays host to an eight-race card and with plenty of rainfall in the area over recent days, the going is now described officially as 'soft'.

There's no doubt the concluding Chestnut Room At thirskraces Perfect Party Venue Handicap (5.50) is a competitive affair but First Greyed looks to have plenty in his favour for last year's winning trainer Michael Dods.

The five-year-old grey did well to prevail narrowly at Beverley on his penultimate outing having been denied a clear run at a crucial stage, and he probably just found the ground a bit lively when sixth off 1lb higher at Ayr last time.

A mark of 65 should be workable given he won a soft-ground course and distance handicap off 63 this time last year. Stall thirteen is a slight concern but Connor Beasley, who gets back onboard for the first time since that success at Ayr two starts ago, knows him well and I'm hopeful they can pick their way through the pack from towards the rear of the field to come with a well-timed winning run.

Selection: First Greyed – General 5/1

We head to Kempton for our last two selections.

The Unibet Support Safe Gambling Novice Stakes (6.00) looks like an above-average novice contest. Alexi Boy looked like a nice prospect when landing a five-furlong maiden at Lingfield towards the end of August, but debut winner Electric Storm impressed equally and gets the vote to come out on top.

James Tate's filly travelled kindly when winning over seven furlongs on debut here a month ago and I'd hazard a guess she beat a nice enough type that day. The runner-up, Le Mans, made a successful handicap debut at Salisbury last time.

Dropping back to six furlongs should pose no issues for this daughter of Night Of Thunder, who travelled kindly over further here on debut, and with further progress surely likely, the James Tate-trained filly can remain unbeaten by defying the penalty.

Selection: Electric Storm – General 2/1

It's hardly surprising to see King Cabo strong in the early morning markets to land the Unibet More Boosts In More Races Handicap (7.30) and I expect it to prove money well placed.

This represents a sizeable drop in grade for Luke Dace's gelding and you don't have to go back far through his form to see him running well in much stronger contests.

He was well-backed when bumping into one in a Class 3 handicap at Sandown last time and produced a fine effort in defeat when fourth off this mark over course and distance prior.

The booking of Oisin Murphy catches the eye, and from stall six, this previous course and distance scorer should have every chance of doubling his tally on an artificial surface.

Selection: King Cabo – General 9/4
