There were 72 horses entered at the initial stage on Tuesday afternoon, which was made up of 46 British entries, 23 from Ireland and one each from France, the USA and Japan.

As so often is the case at this stage, Aidan O'Brien looks to have an abundance of riches on the initial Betfred Derby entry list, none more so than the star juvenile of 2023 City Of Troy.

Aidan O'Brien's son of Justify was a sparkling three out of three in his juvenile campaign, which culminated with a stunning Group 1 performance in the Dewhurst Stakes on Newmarket's Rowley Mile.

City Of Troy is already odds-on to land the 245th Epsom Derby on the Downs in June and all eyes will be on O'Brien's charge as he begins his campaign in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket in May.

O'Brien's entry list also features the likes of the beautifully-bred Vincent O'Brien National Stakes winner Henry Longfellow, Diego Velazquez, who won the KPMG Champions Juvenile Stakes, and Criterium de Saint-Cloud winner Los Angeles.

Charlie Appleby landed the world's most famous flat race back in 2021 courtesy of Adayar. Both Futurity Trophy winner Ancient Wisdom and Zetland Stakes scorer Arabian Crown feature on the 72-strong list at the current stage.

The next entry stage for the £1.5million showpiece is on April 24.
