Exciting novice chaser Iroko remains on course to make an unexpected comeback in the Turners Novices’ Chase at the Cheltenham Festival for co-trainers Oliver Greenall and Josh Guerriero.

Successful in the Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Hurdle twelve months ago, Iroko made an eye-catching start to his novice chasing campaign when scoring at Warwick in comfortable fashion. Although an injury ruled the JP McManus-owned gelding out for the remainder of the season, Iroko made an unexpected speedy recovery and connections announced he would take his place in this year's Turners Novices' Chase, despite having been absent from the track since November.

"He's absolutely fine and in good health and is all set to run – we're looking forward to running him on the Thursday in the Turners," said Greenall.

"He seemed to really handle the New course (in the Martin Pipe), but I think he's pretty versatile and he would handle the Old course just as well.

"It (possible races) just came too soon really, fitness wise, but he has been away and schooled at Haydock and we've done everything we can.

"I think the fact he has run in some good juvenile races and some good handicaps, he is streetwise in that sense and it will just be jumping the fences at speed he will lack experience in, I suppose."

Iroko is currently fourth favourite in the betting behind British-trained hopefuls Ginny's Destiny and Grey Dawning.
