Mile Championship in Kyoto

3 minute read

We wish the JRA would encourage us to go to this race as it promises to be top level.

That is G1 for the Milers and next weekend's Japan Cup is for the stayers.

Meantime we get another glimpse into the future with the running of the Tokyo Sports Hai Nisai G2 over 1800m.  10 will line up and since we don't know much about them so far will just repeat the Morning Line's top three – Fervent (we know he won on debut) by Heart's Cry with T Yokoyama riding and 4.2, Forlanini by Epiphaneia on 4.8 with Lemaire on board and Shonan La Punta by Kizuna on 5.3.  We will have a small e/w on Gaiamente with Tom Marquand to ride the son of Duramente and 16.7 tempting.

That is run on Saturday in Tokyo and on Sunday we swing back to Kyoto for the running of the Mile championship on Sunday and it could mean a possible trip to Hong Kong for their Mile Championship in December.  Favourite is Schnell Meister on 2.6 with Lemaire riding and they will need to be zehr schnell to outrun some of their rivals.  These include last year's winner Serifos on 4.8, Soul Rush with Moreira on board at 6.6 and one we like Namur who has drawn the car park but will have Ryan Moore in the irons and 7.8 the quote.  Our roughie here is Justin Café on 40.7 – he was 6th in this race last year but has been going well since then and has a sizzling turn of foot.

The flying horse box is heading to Tokyo this week so we will be able to report on the ground prior to the big race.
