Race 5 Dequetteville Stakes – Karavas

It didn't quite go to plan for Karavas in her return, but it was a solid resuming effort, nevertheless. Running to a rating of 100+ on the Racing and Sports scale when taking care of a handy field in the Ottawa Stakes on Oaks Day at Flemington, the market expected the filly to resume in a similar vein of form in the Dequetteville, jumping a twist or two better than evens across the totes. Settling midfield under gun hoop Jake Toeroek, Karavas was pulled to the outside to let down with her effort in the straight, set the challenge of reeling in promising Moody & Coleman debutant Lincolnshire. Taking her time to move through her gears, Karavas rattled home to finish with the meeting's fastest final 200m (11.44) but couldn't catch the leader, beaten a long neck (0.4L). Karavas picked up just about where she left off from in her debut prep, posting a R&S rating of 97 in her Stakes placing. Following in the footsteps of her talented stablemate and 2022 Dequetteville Stakes winner, See You In Heaven, expect Karavas to go straight to the Group 3 Breeders' Stakes on April 27, where with the slightest bit of improvement she will take plenty of stitching.

Race 4 – Losesomewinmore

The day's second fastest finisher comes from the same stable and warrants following up on after scoring impressively in his return. Running to a rating of 86 on the R&S scale, the four-year-old bettered his previous peak rating by 14 pounds (72), putting 1.7L to his nearest rival. Posting the day's quickest 600-200m and the second quickest closing 200m, further improvement is anticipated for the R & C Jolly runner, and with that, more success.
