Fallen Angel bounced back from Newmarket disappointment to land the Irish 1000 Guineas at the Curragh on Sunday, under a confident ride from Danny Tudhope.
One of the leading juveniles last season, Karl Burke's Fallen Angel had already tasted success at the Curragh, having taken the Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes over seven furlongs in September. Favourite for the 1000 Guineas on seasonal reappearance, the filly struggled to find extra in the closing stages and remained one-paced to finish a disappointing eighth.
The top two in the market were keen to get on with the job, with Opera Singer taking an early lead before Fallen Angel hit the front with half-a-mile to run. Jockey Danny Tudhope remained confident aboard the star filly and kicked for home with two furlongs to run, pulling clear for an emphatic victory over A Lilac Rolla and Opera Singer.
"I was confident we would see a different filly from Newmarket. I was pleased when the rain came to be fair. She just keeps galloping and stays very, very well," said Tudhope.
"She is very versatile ground wise and takes everything that comes in her stride."
Paddy Power shortened Fallen Angel from 12/1 to 7/2 favourite for the Group 1 Coronation Stakes whilst Opera Singer drifted from 10/3 favourite to 5/1 for the same race.
