Smart South Australian galloper Press Down is searching for a change of fortunes at Murray Bridge on Saturday.
The Peter Hardacre-trained four-year-old comes off two eye-catching efforts against some hot opposition during the Adelaide Racing Carnival.
He was beaten 1.4 lengths behind subsequent Group 1 Goodwood winner Benedetta in the Group 3 Irwin Stakes at Morphettville in April before following up with another close-up effort when beaten 2.1 lengths behind Extremely lucky in the Group 3 Hawkes Stakes a fortnight later.
"I would have liked an outside draw from the chute at Murray Bridge,'' Hardacre said.
"He's going to need a little bit of luck from the gate, but the horse jumped out there well last week and goes into the race really well,'' he said.
Hardacre has a couple of options over the border with Press Down that could either see him tackle the $150,000 Golden Topaz (1200m) – a heat of the Santa Ana Lane Sprint Series - at Swan Hill or head back to Melbourne in two weeks' time.
"We are looking at Swan Hill and there is a race the following day at Flemington,'' Hardacre said.
"A lot will depend on how he runs on Saturday but I think we'll probably nominate for both races and then make a decision,'' he said.
Saturday's Murray Bridge assignment is a race with plenty of Adelaide Racing Carnival form.
Karacasu comes out of the Group 1 Goodwood when beaten 4.8 lengths behind Benedetta while Delightful Shecky will chase his fourth win in succession for dual-licenced horseman Dylan Caboche.
