Queensland beckons for The Inevitable

Two-time Ladbrokes Tasmanian Horse of the Year, The Inevitable, is set for another interstate campaign following a grass gallop in Hobart on Sunday morning.

The eight-year-old son of Dundeel is Queensland-bound, with trainer John Keys targeting the Group 3 BRC Sprint over 1300m at Doomben on 25 May before the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap at Eagle Farm over 1400m on 15 June.

The Inevitable wasn't at his best in two starts during the 2023/24 Ladbrokes Summer Racing Festival, which returned a second in the Conquering Stakes and a fourth in the Tasmanian Stakes, but his trainer is pleased with how he has bounced back.

"His gallop on Sunday was really good, and he heads to Queensland on Tuesday," Keys said.

"The vet gave him the best report that he's probably ever had, I think, so it's onward and upward."

The Inevitable worked alongside stablemate Naval Anthem on Sunday morning, who will also be heading north along with Tsunami Sam from the Keys stable.

"They're expecting a bit of rain in Queensland in the coming months, so we know the ones we're taking up there will handle it," said Keys.

The $3,000,000 Stradbroke Handicap was originally a target for The Inevitable last year, but those plans were aborted after a minor setback following his third placing in the 2023 All-Star Mile.

Keys says The Inevitable will head to Bevan Laming's Queensland property and likely have a few trials before his first-up run.

Ladbrokes have The Inevitable as a $21 chance for the Stradbroke, a race that would give the winner of over $1.8 million in prize money his first Group 1 victory.
