3 minute read

Racing returns to Royal Randwick this Saturday with a bumper ten race card to be run and won.

The rail will be out 8m from the 900m mark to the winning post and out 5m for the remainder.

The track is currently rated a soft 6 with only a slight chance of rain on the day.

We've had a close look at all ten races on the program and our thoughts can be found below.

RACE 1 - 11:00AM: SPORTSBET CHANCE CANCER FOUNDATION HANDICAP 2YO (1200 METRES)

Rag Queen returns to the races.

The D'Argento filly proved too good on debut back in January, powering home from the back to salute over 1100m at Canterbury.

She then stepped out in the Inglis Millennium where she again found herself well back and unleashed a brilliant turn of foot to charge home into third.

Given the one public trial, she was finishing off strongly over the final part and looked to have plenty in hand.

The 1200m looks ideal for her kicking off and the low draw should see her settle within striking distance under Reece Jones.

RACE 2 - 11:35AM: MIDWAY HANDICAP BM72 (1400 METRES)

Sumo Star has performed very well in two runs back from a break.

After settling near the rear when resuming over 1100m, he charged home strongly down the outside to claim third.

Last start he raced handy and was strong to the line but just found Navy Blood too sharp in the heavy conditions.

The son of Maurice looks well suited stepping out to 1400m and with the claim for Jett Stanley, he gets in beautifully again with just 52kgs on his back.

RACE 3 - 12:10PM: TAB HIGHWAY HANDICAP CLASS 3 (1200 METRES)

It's a big ask for Tanglewood with the 61kgs and the outside gate but I think he has the class to get the job done.

The talented galloper finished the runner up behind the very smart Martini Mumma when resuming over 1100m and he relished the extra 100m last start, proving too strong over the final stages at Newcastle.

Only lightly raced, he still does a few things wrong and does have a tendency to lay in under pressure, but the blinkers go on for the first time which may see him put it all together.

He will need luck from the wide draw but if he can find cover, he'll be doing his best work late.

RACE 4 - 12:45PM: PF CIVIL HANDICAP BM78 (2400 METRES)

Quantum Cat has been brilliant late in his two Australian outings and will relish the rise to 2400m.

The American bred gelding kicked off his career in the UK where he saluted in three of his five starts and he has already proven himself a genuine stayer.

When resuming over the mile at Mornington, he looked to be struggling when the pressure went on but really let down strongly over the final 200m.

Last time out to 2000m he made a long sustained run but still was strong through the line.

The rise in trip will suit and he'll appreciate getting out onto a bigger track.

Josh Parr will do the steering for Chris Waller.

RACE 5 - 1:20PM: ST GEORGE LEAGUES CLUB HANDICAP BM78 (1400 METRES)

Konasana was found to be lame after contesting the Hawkesbury Guineas last start so I'm happy to put a line through that run.

The start prior, she prover far too good when taking out the Group Three James Carr Stakes in the heavy conditions.

A daughter of Dundeel, she's always shown good ability but just struggled to get out over the longer trip when set on an Oaks path in the Spring.

She's come back in top order and looks well placed staying at the 1400m.

She'll appreciate the sting out of the ground and has drawn to receive every chance under Rory Hutchings, who takes the mount for Chris Waller.

RACE 6 - 1:55PM: WILSON ASSET MANAGEMENT HANDICAP BM72 (1800 METRES)

Socks Nation has been racing well and should find this a touch easier than what she's been contesting.

The Sioux Nation filly has performed consistently throughout her campaign, which technically is still her first campaign with all of her runs having been spaced.

Two starts back she held her ground over the final stage in the Group Three Alexandra Stakes and last time, off a five week freshen up, she hit the front in the Bendigo Guineas but was just run down late.

The rise to 1800m should suit and she'll relish any moisture in the track.

RACE 7 - 2:30PM: TAYLOR CONSTRUCTION HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

Mogo Magic returns the races.

The Goulburn trained galloper could not have made a more impressive start to his career.

After scoring on debut with a commanding 6.7 length victory he continued to work through the grades with ease, putting together five straight wins.

He remained unbeaten when resuming last campaign, stepped out in The Kosciuszko but despite finding a nice position in the run he tired late and was subsequently spelled.

The 1000m looks ideal for him first up and whilst he comes here with no public trials, Scott Collings has done a wonderful job with him to date and if the Duporth gelding is at his best, then he should prove hard to beat.

RACE 8 - 3:05PM: FUJITSU AIRSTAGE HANDICAP BM94 (1600 METRES)

St Lawrence was doing his best work late when resuming over 1500m at Rosehill late last month.

Off a slick tempo he settled back in the field and when asked for an effort at the of the straight, he hit the line strongly to claim third, beaten only 1.6 lengths.

The Kiwi import took all before him early on, saluting in six of his first seven starts but just failed to fire towards the end of a long preparation.

He looks to have come back in top order and is two from two second up.

He does drop back in grade and the rise to the mile looks ideal.

Josh Parr goes onboard for Ciaron Maher and whilst he has drawn wide, if he can find cover early he'll be charging home late.

RACE 9 - 3:45PM: PF CIVIL EQUIPMENT HANDICAP BM88 (2000 METRES)

Political Debate comes off a terrific run in the Wagga Cup, where he was just outgunned late by Fawkner Park.

The start prior he was doing his best work late over 1800m at his second run back from a break.

With the three runs under his belt, the son of So You Think presents here at peak fitness and he'll appreciate the drop back in grade.

He has only won the one race but has competed at stakes level throughout the majority of his fifteen start career and will find this easier.

Jason Collett goes onboard for the first time and with any luck from the wide draw, he'll be right there at the finish.

RACE 10 - 4:25PM: SUPPORTERHUB HANDICAP BM78 (1400 METRES)

Nails Murphy resumed off a break with an encouraging effort over 1400m on the Kensington on Anzac Day.

Under the 61kg impost, the Ciaron Maher trained gelding settled in behind the leaders and didn't have a lot of room in the early part of the straight but held his ground to the line over the final stages.

After beginning his career in the UK, where he just had the four runs, the Irish bred galloper was solid in his two Australian starts last campaign.

Given plenty of time to settle in, he looks very progressive and will have taken good improvement from that first up outing.

He does rise in grade but drops 4kgs and will be afforded every chance under Josh Parr.
