2021 John Letts Medal winner Jessica Eaton will saddle up her first runner since taking out her training license earlier this year when Mateo makes his South Australian debut while young Morphettville horseman Tyson Cowan has his first starter with Exalted Joy.

Mateo is a former Peter and Paul Snowden-trained galloper who was unplaced in two starts for the stable last year beaten 8.2 lengths at Hawkesbury on debut before he was beaten 10.6 lengths at Beaudesert back in December.

The $230,000 yearling was sold in the January Inglis Online Sale for $10,000 and is owned by Eaton's partner and Racing.com presenter James Tzaferis.

Tyson Cowan has played a patient game ahead of taking his first runner with Exalted Joy returning to races after almost four and half years on the sidelines.

Cowan worked with the mare previously when working at the Narrung property of the late Ken and Helen Smith before joining SA's leading stable – Richard and Chantelle Jolly - at Morphettville where he hopes to grow his career.

"I've been here with Richard and Chantelle for the last six months, they are pretty flexible knowing I want to transition into training,'' Cowan said.

Exalted Joy is now a six-year-old and hasn't raced since January, 2000 when she was well beaten behind talented mare Mileva at Murray Bridge but showed she was ready for a return to racing finishing fourth in a recent Balaklava trial.

"She had two starts as a two-year-old and probably wasn't quite ready, she was always one I had a connection with,'' Cowan said.

"She's had a few dramas. It's been a long time in the making, she's been working well and I'm hoping she goes out there and shows me she's interested and wants to keep doing it,'' he said.
