Malasun out of Blue Diamond

3 minute read

Mick Price will spell one-time Blue Diamond equal favourite Malasun who will miss the race while stablemate Samaready is all the rage as favourite.

Trainer Mick Price has confirmed to stewards that one-time Blue Diamond equal favourite Malasun would be spelled and miss the $1 million event after she was unplaced to stablemate and favourite Samaready last Saturday.

Malasun had her Blue Diamond quote slashed from $21 to $7 equal favourite with Samaready with TAB Sportsbet following her victory in the Listed Fillies Preview (1000m) at Caulfield on January 26.

However she fell out of favour when sixth to the highly-impressive Samaready in the Group Three Blue Diamond Fillies Prelude (1100m) at Caulfield last Saturday.

Malasun overraced in the early and middle stages and her rider Damien Oliver told stewards he believed she had come to the end of her preparation.

Samaready, a half-sister to Group Two Karrakatta Plate winner Night War and a $150,000 Australian Easter Yearling Sale purchase, is all the rage for the Blue Diamond (1200m) at Caulfield on Saturday week.

The More Than Ready filly, unbeaten in two starts after winning on debut over 1000m at Flemington on December 17, firmed from $7 to $2.80 favouritism after Saturday's 3-1/4-length romp and continued support since has her in to $2.40.

She is clearly ahead of the Gai Waterhouse-trained No Looking Back at $9, The Travelling Man and Jimando at $10 and Mama's Choice at $11 with Rusambo and Forget at $15.
