Prevailing ended his 2011-12 season in Tasmania with a brilliant win in the G3 Launceston Cup (2400m) defeating Geegees Blackflash, denying that horse the privilege of clinching the Hobart-Launceston Cups double.

“Prevailing is coming along nicely with the plan to start his preparation in either the Newmarket Handicap on November 21 or a weight-for-age race in Launceston a couple of weeks later,” said co-trained David Brunton.

"The Newmarket is going to be a tougher first-up assignment so we are probably already leaning a bit towards the weight-for-age race on December 5 but we’ll make up our minds up closer to the time."

After Prevailing gave the Bruntons their first Launceston Cup success he went to Melbourne to win at Moonee Valley but after one more outing in Victoria he was sent home.

“The horse found it hard to settle in over there and he got so bad we had to send him home,” Brunton said.

“It could have been the boat trip so if we take him again we’ll definitely fly him over."

Brunton also is excited about the prospects of four-year-old mare Buzzing Along and recent winner Galibier.

Buzzing Along went close to winning the Listed Vamos Stakes at Mowbray in February when a close second to her former stablemate Lady Lynette in a head-bobbing photo-finish.

“Buzzing Along has been back in work a while and she will kick off her campaign over 1100 metres in Launceston next week," Brunton said.

Buzzing Along is likely to be aimed at the Bow Mistress-Vamos Stakes double at the summer carnival.

Buzzing Along also ventured to Victoria with Prevailing but she was unplaced in two starts on metropolitan tracks.

The Bruntons also have a Newmarket start in mind for Galibier after he scored an impressive win in a Class 4 over 1100m at the opening night meeting of the season at Mowbray last Wednesday.

Galibier quickly put two lengths on his rivals and proceeded to extend that margin over the final 200m to hit the line four lengths clear of Heartbreak Lass.

Scott Brunton said Galibier was an exciting horse with plenty of scope for improvement.

“There is no doubt we are looking at the Newmarket with this horse but we are happy to concentrate on his next mission which is another Class 4 in Hobart in a fortnight,” Brunton said.

“The horse is doing all we have asked of him this time in but there is still a bit to do if he is to go to the next level."

The $90,000 Newmarket will be run over 1200m under lights on November 21.
