The early Melbourne Cup favourite kicked off over the unsuitable 1400m trip today, settling last in the run before sweeping to the lead over the concluding stages to win with ease.

As expected Ajeeb and Under The Sun set the early tempo with Ajeeb leading by as much as two lengths in the straight before Glen Boss mounted his challenge aboard Puissance De Lune.

Boss coasted to the line pointing at the horse with amazement with Ajeeb hanging on well for second with Second Effort in third.

Owner Gerry Ryan indicated after the race the former French Galloper could target the Cox Plate on his way to a tilt at the Melbourne Cup with trainer Darren Weir unsure where the horse will go to next.

“That was great he rode him well and the plan was to go back and to be strong late and the horse went super,” said Weir.

“I am just glad to get over today and I have a talk to Glen and Gerry and see what there thoughts are bu he did if very well and with such ease as well.”

“The surgery he had has not been a concern since day one the way it went and the vets have been very happy with it.”

Jockey Glen Boss, who has ridden plenty of champions throughout his career put Puissance De Lune up among his best outside of Makybe Diva and So You Think.

“He is simply an extraordinary animal isn’t he and I put him somewhere in the vicinity of eighty to eighty five percent fit,” said Boss.

“It was a very simple plan for us to be last or second last,” said Boss.

“when you ask him to come up on the bridal this horse it’s almost like a remote control and he is ready to go when you ask him.”

“He had a blow and at the 200m mark he was starting to peak but he is the real deal this horse, he is genuine superstar.

“I know it is early in his preparation but he has a great team and they will have him ready to go Cox Plate day and I can’t express my words how good he is.”
