The racing career of multiple stakes winning sprinter Second Effort is unfortunately over after the seven-year-old broke down at trackwork at Caulfield on Saturday morning.
The victor of 11 races and over $600,000 in prizemoney fractured his hind leg while cantering at Caulfield on the weekend resulting in the son of Mossman being euthanised.
The Clinton McDonald trained galloper was a winner of both the Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes and Group 2 P.B. Lawrence Stakes, however he was best known for his consecutive victories at the infamous Warrnambool carnival in May.
Having won one race during the three-day carnival for the past four years, Second Effort was also chasing his third straight Wangoom Handicap after impressively saluting with the topweight last year.
