Deep Field Turns Heads At Rosehill

Deep Field has turned heads in winning a 900m Open Trial at Rosehill on Tuesday.

The Team Hawkes-trained four-year-old effortlessly won a 900m Open Trial by 2.8 lengths in a time of 53.5 which was clearly the fastest heat over that distance of the morning.

Deep Field beat the likes of Charge Missile, Stay Schtum, Velrosso and She’s A Girl.

“He only did what he had to do,” Michael Hawkes said.

“He hit the line well and everyone knows what he's capable of so he wasn't out there for a hard trial. It was more educational and to get his fitness levels up.”

Deep Field first caught the eye during a two start maiden prep through the winter where he won each of his starts by a combined margin of 14.5 lengths.

All signs point to the Northern Meteor colt heading towards stakes racing this spring however will likely be given the opportunity to work through his grades earlier in the prep.

“At this stage he'll run next Wednesday at Canterbury and we'll see how we go,” Hawkes told Sky Sports Radio.

Trials at Rosehill commenced with a 1030m Open trial won by Manawanui who has now trialled on four occasions so far this preparation.

The Gary Moore-trained Happy Galaxy ran second in the heat while he also saddled up Dan Excel in the heat for brother John Moore who ran third.
