A field of just six will go to post for the Group 1 Lightning Stakes this Saturday at Flemington.
A field of six is the smallest to line up for the feature sprint since the year 2000 when three-year-olds Testa Rossa and Falvelon fought out the finish.
Since then the race has averaged eleven runners but it seems that the likes of Lankan Rupee and Deep Field have frightened off a few would be runners this year.

That pair are the headline act on Saturday with Brazen Beau the lone three-year-old in the field.
Three-year-olds have a good record in the Lightning, Testa Rossa in 2000 was soon followed by Choisir, Regimental Gal and Fastnet Rock, while a host of others have filled placings, but the advent and upgrade of a series of alternate options may have the classic generation looking elsewhere these days.
Top-line three-year-olds have been few and far between in the 1000m sprint in recent years but the addition of Brazen Beau to this years line-up sets up a much wanted, and much needed, clash of the generations.
