2015 Coolmore Classic – Danesiri Retired

3 minute read

The career of in form mare Danesiri has ended abruptly due to a bowed tendon with broodmare duties now beckoning the last start Group winner.

Danesiri was being prepared for a Group 1 tilt in the Coolmore Classic (1500m) however heat was found in a tendon following the mare’s trackwork on Tuesday morning.

The mare had commenced her latest autumn campaign in career best form with a second in the Group 3 Triscay Stakes (1200m) followed by victory in the Group 3 Guy Walter Stakes (1400m) at Warwick Farm last start.

Now a rising seven-year-old, broodmare duties beckon for the daughter of Home On The Grange in the spring.

From 37 career starts, Danesiri recorded seven wins and 11 minor placings with earnings of approximately $250,000.

Initially trained by Wayne Wilkes at Port Macquarie, Danesiri arrived at the John Thompson stable following a five start spring campaign which included a minor placing in the Group 3 Angst Stakes (1600m) at Randwick.

Danesiri’s absence leaves Thompson without a Plan B for the Group 1 feature at Rosehill on Saturday where stablemate First Seal will start favourite following her dominant success in the Group 2 Surround Stakes (1400m).

Danesiri put up good effort to win. She travelled nicely in seventh place (wide with cover) following a good tempo. She moved up, very wide out, rounding the home turn, put in a strong run to hit the lead at the 100m and then drew clear to score by almost a length. The favourite Cosmic Endeavour was a handy fifth, between runners, got a split rounding the home turn, challenged at the 100m and then fought gamely for (0.8 lengths) second, putting up a good performance especially considering she conceded the winner 5kgs. Mahara was beyond midfield (wide with cover), switched very wide on straightening and ran on well to take third. Solicit shared the lead (on the rails) to the 200m and fought on quite well for (2.4 lengths) fourth at her first run for new trainer Gerald Ryan. Dear Demi was a handy sixth between runners, moved up (wide out) at the home turn and battled on nicely for a sound (2.9 lengths) first-up fifth. The Queensland mare Tinto caught the eye running on from last in the 16-horse field at the home turn to finish (3.4 lengths) sixth. Arabian Gold was midfield to the home turn but only plugged on in the straight for eighth, beaten four lengths, at her first run since October.
