3 minute read

Trainer John O’Shea is hoping the forecast is wrong and the Sha Tin track will not cop a lot of rain before the 2016 Champions Mile.

O’Shea has sent Bow Creek to Hong Kong for the 2016 Champions Mile, run this Saturday, May 2.

Bow Creek is one of two Godolphin runners in the 2016 Champions Mile and has had solid Australian form this autumn including a win in the Group 2 Peter Young Stakes and a last-start fifth to Winx in the 2016 Doncaster Mile.

“Ever since he arrived in Australia last spring we’ve been impressed with him and nothing has happened to change those first impressions,” O’Shea said.

“He showed some class when he won for us at his fourth run in Australia, his two runs since have been solid and he’s settled in beautifully in Hong Kong.”

O’Shea said Bow Creek had a slight temperature when he first arrived from Australia and took a couple of days to bounce back but hadn’t missed any work and the team was excited to see what he could do in the 2016 Champions Mile.

“Our biggest concern is that the forecast is pointing towards a wet track, but I know the Sha Tin track can handle a lot of rain.”

Godolphin also have Safety Check in the race off a last-start win in the Group 2 Zabeel Mile at Meydan.

His trainer Charlie Appleby is also hoping for a dry track for the 2016 Champions Mile for Safety Check.

“Safety Check has travelled well and arrived in Hong Kong in good order and reports are that everything is going in the right direction,” Appleby said.

“He worked this morning on the grass and I am pleased with his progress going into the race on Sunday. He was much more relaxed on Wednesday than he had been.”
